{ "videoTitle" : "Can the Conviction Stand? Inside the Richard Allen Appeals Hearing", "description" : { "content" : "On February 13, 2017, 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German were killed near the Monon High Bridge in Delphi, Indiana. Libby’s phone recorded a man, later called 'Bridge Guy', telling them “down the hill.” Their bodies were found the next day.
Richard Allen, a local pharmacy technician, was arrested in October 2022. In November 2024 a jury convicted him of murder and murder while kidnapping. He was sentenced to 130 years in December 2024.
On September 21, 2026, the Indiana Court of Appeals heard his bid for a new trial. His lawyers argued the 2022 home search warrant was misleading, and that confessions made after more than 13 months in solitary should never have reached the jury because he was in psychosis. The state asked the panel to leave the conviction in place.
This was not the Indiana Supreme Court. The three-judge panel has not ruled yet. A decision could take weeks or months. Whoever loses can ask the Supreme Court to take the case, but that court does not have to hear it.
