Grails to Astonish

I cracked open two CGC-graded books and ran the raw comics through Robograder to see how close it lands to the official grades. One book nailed it. The other one taught me something I needed to fix.

The test subjects: Amazing Spider-Man #97 (CGC 7.0) and Fantastic Four #51 (CGC 3.5).

Robograder is live on the App Store. Grade a raw comic from your phone in under 3 minutes for $2. You'll get a Robograde score, a predicted CGC grade, a full defect breakdown, a printable label, and now a fair-market-value range on frequently-submitted books.

An Android version is coming — it's top of my list.

0:00 I'm kind of a moron

9:39 Can Robo grade slabs?
12:23 Attacking the cases

24:01 Robograding FF 51
27:00 The result — a 3.5 bullseye

34:51 Printing labels!

• The date-stamp issue is now fixed — date stamps and distribution ink no longer count against the grade.
• All model-improvement use of submissions is disclosed and an opt-out is available in the app's settings.

Thanks for watching, and thank you to everyone who's already using Robograder.

I think the important thing to remember is that this app is another tool that can, at the very least, help a lot of us in the process of pre-grading to send our books in or books that we don't want to slab, but would like a general idea of the grade. It may not be perfect, but neither are any of us or even the "professional" graders.

Love the eye protection " it only takes once"

I like the fact that it was exactly the same grade as CGC on the lower grades. I find those lower grade books are harder to grade and this was spot on.

Thanks for the video and research. Not sure if you’ve made a video like this, but a suggestion would be to see what happens when you grade a book with robo-grader, then clean and press it, and then regrade with the app and see what improvements are recognized.

The staple Amazing Spider-Man looks like a micro tear on top part of the stable. I would say Robograder did a good job.

Hey I run a custom software company and build tools like this.

My advice should be on your admin backend whenever you delete a defect on your side, add the ability to give a description you can write in and save it to your database. Depending on how you run your model (adjusting prompts or some sort of leaning model) you can use that to change your inputs.

Really awesome app and impressed by this project. You nailed it on the prototype quick with Claude but productizing is the big lift. My dad is huge into comics and showed me your videos we have had fun following how things are coming, and are excited to see your progress!

2 dollars per assessment on the app is insane but i respect the hustle. i thought hey it's on a phone and has cute animation, i can use it for funsies but wasn't expecting the cost to be so high imo. in any case good luck to you!

Consider on iOS suggesting people turn off fusion camera on pro and pro max models so iOS doesn’t “computationally merge” - may affect image the app uses ai to grade.

LED lights rated 5000k naturally give off a bluish hue. Consider CRI rated bulbs of 80 or 90 and higher so the color rendering of the image is as accurate as possible. Full spectrum LEDs may help produce better images for better results.

In Beta, the biggest hangup to using your tool was having the proper lighting source. I don't have a bright, white-light source (or a lightbox). I gotta figure that out before I use it again. Cool tool.

A wood chisel and a rubber mallet, start at top of slab and start from there

Robograder is AWESOME!!!!!

The stain on the FF book most likely started on the back cover and soaked up to the top of the cover. But that would mean the pages inside would all be stained also?
