The whiplash from a system as flawed as artian and a system as perfect as armor transcendence being in the same game is enough to snap an elephant's neck.

One thing I really don’t see a lot of people talk about is the fact that theres no way to change the maps to low rank and back.

I know its usage may be a little specific but now that I’m crafting every weapon it really is annoying to constantly go through optional quests to get low rank materials instead of being able to simply switch the maps to low rank and additionally get the bonuses from investigations as well.

It was a thing in World and I don’t understand why it isn’t in Wilds.

About the camps being smashed there are areas monsters will never go to. You can always place camps there and just never get them destroyed anyway. It was very weird how no one used them and just complained

To add onto your points on the skills system, something that the rng talismans illuminated to me is how utterly baffling it is that the crafted talismans don't include weapon skills AT ALL. The extreme limitation on weapon skill levels could've been so much less annoying if you could slot full attack boost or crit boost without sacrificing 2/3s of your precious few weapon deco slots on them, especially for skill-hungry weapons like CB.

the only thing i don't like about the gogma artian mechanic is the lack of customization, you could do whatever you wanted with safi weapons you had so many options. It's too bad too cause gog is actually a lot more enjoyable than safi imo.

It's a fun game, and I like fun games.

I still maintain a rather conflicted relationship with Wilds in this time, but having gone back to it last week, after a roughly three month break, I was reminded about the fact it genuinely still is a very fun game to play and just exist in. Maybe it was the fact I was completely separating myself from the endless Artian grinding and the burnout? That’s at least why I think I had a nice time going back. Though I also think Ascendance is another reason I’m feeling more positive towards it these days.

What is it really about Wilds I see? One word - promise. This is the future of Monster Hunter we’re seeing play out in front of us. And I want to be there for the whole ride, bumpy as it may still be. And I don’t think that it’s going to be perfect with the expansion suddenly, but I still have belief in the future for the game. Every Monster Hunter is worth playing for one reason or another, Wilds is no exception.

As someone going for completion, crafting out the entire catalogue of equipment has shown me that Hunter Symbols are a complete mess. Symbol 1s and 2s are whatever, you're always getting them if you fight those lower tier tempered monsters. But Hunter Symbol 3 has been ruined by the existence of 9 star tempered quests, because HS3 don't drop from them. The drop rate for HS3 is highest in 7 star tempered quests, goes down in 8 star quests with the introduction of artian parts, and is removed from the reward pool in 9 star quests, and post HR 100 the rate of which tempered quests appear weights towards the high end. For the entire catalogue you need 700+ HS3, mind you. We can't meld for them, and no luck-boosting effects help you in farming them besides the ever-limited Lucky Voucher. I actually would say it's the worst idea.

Honestly, a truly open-world Monster Hunter should probably be its own project like Frontier or Online.

I feel like obtaining weapons is the one thing that you should never make too complicated.

I've been revisiting GU recently and it really hit me there. In GU or Sunbreak, i'm not afraid to experiment with new stuff, if Gunlance sounds interesting i can just make one, build a set around it and go hunting. I've found myself playing greatsword, longsword, sword and shield, dual blades, lance, charge-blade, insect-glaive, light bowgun and bow.

In Wilds i've only made a set of dual blades for each element and 2 bows before i burned out and dropped the game.

I feel like they made this system that should in theory encourage creativity and experimentation, but they made it so tedious, unreliable and expensive that it ended up doing the complete opposite...

For all of Wilds' flaws, I still love the game and will be forever grateful for it. It introduced me to Monster Hunter as a whole, and I enjoyed it enough to play some of the previous games. I don't regret buying this game at all, and I can't wait for the expansion to come out.

1:14:57 so, funnily enough, the bird actually CAN drift, they just don’t tell you about it. I discovered, completely on accident 200 hours in, that if you hit the brakes on a sharp turn while dashing, the seikret drifts. it’s really awkward to pull off and doesn’t give you the speed boost the dog does, but bird drift is real and is (somewhat) useful.

One plus I don't see enough of is that every weapon looks unique. One thing I really didn't like in World/Rise was that most weapons had the "here's the original weapon but with a monster flavored skin." Iirc each weapon looking unique was in the earlier games and then they swapped to "evolving" weapons in world because "realism." To me, it felt lazy and "realism" was the excuse.

I think wounds are good, just need tweaked numbers and effect wise. Sure the glowing weakspot looks odd but it is helpful to go after certain areas, cause a wound, and break it to get specific parts. Like sure you could get tails or horns that'd physically break off, but it does make the grind, less rng heavy and that's something I do appreciate but I also do still think it needs to deal like a quarter or a half of damage less.

Unfortunately even after the TUs I still really dislike Wilds. Still enjoy watching your videos on it though! And I'm really looking forward to the portable team's next game.

My hope for the expansion; Shantien shows up.

HE SAID WILD RIDE, XENOBLADE 3 MENTIONED

I love the concept of Artian weapons (and gogma artian weapons) on paper. The idea of crafting your own personalized weapon is really cool and maybe when they nail the mechanics down I wouldn't mind seeing something similar for 'artian armor'. I guess it would be more appropriate to call these Artisan weapons/armor if they're going to be something we craft ourselves.

The problem is that it's almost entirely relegated to an RNG system with very little in terms of actual player choice. You can choose the initial parts to determine its attack or affinity focus and its element, but purposefully making the weapon a raw weapon doesn't even come with some kind of benefit like you got with the 'elementless' skill in World so that's essentially a decision made for you already. Then for gogma weapons you get to choose attack affinity or elemental focus, and that's it. Everything else regarding the system is throwing random materials at it to roll the dice again and again. I would much rather have a system where we COULD roll the dice using cheap materials and we might get something good out of it, or we could do difficult hunts to get parts that would lock in or guarantee a specific outcome at least to some extent. For example, I'm trying to get Arkveld's Hunger on my gogma dragon lance, so instead of using the generic parts used to upgrade an artian to a gogma artian to simply progress to the next step in a predetermined list, how come I can't use Arkveld Gamma certificates or something to guarantee getting Arkveld's Hunger? I could still roll the dice with other parts but if I get sick of that I could just go fight Arkveld and use his rare part/certificate to get what I want without RNG involved since I already put in the work by fighting the appropriate monster.

I feel a similar way when it comes to talismans. I really wish that it wasn't 100% RNG and we could use methods to craft our own talismans or at least influence what skills we get. Something like taking the first slot skill of one talisman and the second slot skill of a second talisman and combining them into a new talisman, I think that would be better than the pure RNG we have currently. If you want you could throw in a system where adding monster parts could improve the chances of getting certain skills/improve existing ones with skills associated with that monster (so skills you'd find on their armor sets). You could even do some dumb crazy thing where you have to take the melding pot on a hunt and try to hit the monster into the pot and it'll imbue the pot with its essence... I dunno, but we already have something similar with the hunting helpers and their gadgets out in the environments so why not do something interesting with it? Maybe doing that would get old fast and it's actually a dumb idea, but I think it's more engaging than just rolling dice which will always be less interesting than hunting a monster in my book.

Nothing to add about transcendance, but I would like to give a shout-out to how layered armor works in Wilds. Its implementation means the people designing the armor don't need to phone it in with lower ranked monsters because there's always a potential to use the armor in fashion, so even if the armor isn't relevant for its stats later in the game its design can always be relevant. I do wish that we had something similar to the Wycoon in 4U where we could essentially get armor sets for monsters that aren't in the game, even if it's strictly layered armor.

I haven't played all the games in the series yet, I've only played Tri, GU, World, Rise and Wilds plus the Stories games. I love each game and they all have things they excel at but I gotta say, Wilds is probably my favorite one. I just absolutely love it and I don't really have any major issues with it. I should say tho, I personally don't really care about the builds, meta, endgame etc. I'm all about the world, lore, ecology, characters, story, immersion and roleplaying and that's where Wilds really shines imo. The semi open world, the camp customization, the weather system etc. makes Wilds an incredibly immersive experience and that's the most important thing to me. Some people spend their time staring at menus but I spend my time waiting out the rain in the Wudwud Hideout because my palico is cutely sleeping on a haystack and I'd feel bad waking her up. We are not the same.

I think them having the same few returners every game in each generation would get pretty annoying, theres a reason why most people were fuming at Kushala coming back, Teo unfortunately is as well, but the sentiment goes for any monster. It would be nice for the sake of familiarity. but I feel like this series kind of builds upon the mistakes of the last and tries to take a whole new spin on what they can do so I like seeing completely different monster rosters.

21:12 I fully agree. I can't imagine future Monster Hunter games without offsets because they are so satisfying to land and significantly increase the incentives to read monsters' moves correctly.
