We’ve got an orbweaver spider on the deck at the back of our house.

Truck driver here...uh, any arachnophobes might not want to read this. Not because of any actual scary stuff, but it might be...overwhelming. My first year, after training, I left California with my one month observational trainer, and a day later we were in Texas. At one point while he was driving, I looked out the windows after waking up and noticed an odd phenomena. The freeway was fuzzy. Not all of it, just the double lines where tires come into contact with the asphalt. It looked like it had snowed and the snow had been driven over, packing that portion into ice, then it had warmed up a bit, melting the snow but leaving the packed down ice. Except it was brown. And eighty degrees. After about a dozen miles of this(and it was there when I woke up), I asked about it, and my trainer matter of factly told me it was the tarantula migration. Eventually I had the chance to look it up, and tarantula migration is a misnomer. Actually it's mating season, and all the male tarantulas leave their burrows and go looking for females. I'm NOT an arachnophobe. But I stayed in the truck until that zone was hours behind us.

So this exact scenario has occured for me multiple times:
Be me, mowing lawns professionally, notice a jumping spider on my mower, trapped, no way to get off safely as I'm mowing.
I offer my index finger, they look at it and hop right on, I stand up, step off the mower, find a nearby treebranch, hold out my finger.
Jumping spider immediately hops onto the tree branch, calm as can be.

These things are genuinely so chill and so intelligent, huge respect for them.

Edit:
Also, shoutouts to orb weaver and wolf spiders, I've handled them many times, they are incredibly relaxed and non aggressive with humans, I've never been bit by either species (or by jumping spiders), and they're all great at murking the insects that I actually detest.

I'm still arachnophobic, spiders are dope, but FUCK TICKS! 😅

The nursery male spider really said “ I got you this real diamond ring from Jared’s” knowing that it’s a ring pop from a candy store 😂🤦🏼‍♂️

Fun new 'fact' about jumping spiders! A new study (looking at jumping spider brain activity) suggests that they may very well dream

I almost lost the tip of my finger due to a brown recluse bite. Went to the hospital & the lanced it. My finger turned black from the 1st knuckle to the tip. I wound up making a drawing salve my grandma taught me & it saved my finger

36:46...the trap door spider that live fr 43 years was killed by a Parasitoid Wasp, NOT a 'Parasitic Wasp'.  There is a big difference.  A 'parasite' lives inside the host and tries to AVOID killing it.  A 'parasitoid', such as a wasp, stings the victim and places an egg on, or inside the victim.  When the egg hatches, the Larva eats it's still living host.  The difference is, a single parasitoid wasp larva WILL kill the host.  A single parasite will not.

I'm absolutely terrified of spider but this was interesting

Oh what a tangled AI web we weave.

We have spiny orbweavers in South Georgia too

Spiders fascinate me

There is one more Funnelweb Spider to consider, the Funnelweb Spiders of South America. They are related to Sydney Funnelweb Spiders but don't share their medically significant venom.

You are so successfull channel!!!

silk bundle gift LOL

9:19 care to explain why this wolf spider has 5 legs on the right side?

I love spiders and there are some I genuinely admire. Take time to study them, specifically jumping spiders. They are truly intelligent and can plan predatory attacks. They also remember details that make future attacks more efficient. I encourage them to come indoors as they don’t make messy webs. Here in New Zealand, we have few dangerous spiders. The most famous of which is the katipō (Latrodectus katipō). Its name suggests it is a widow and, as such, it is poisonous. The only time it is a threat, however, is when it is accidentally threatened. Furthermore, it is critically endangered in its sand dune habitat by an introduced South African species of the genus, Steotoda.

Take time to get to know spiders and you will be rewarded. Most are immensely valuable.

Umm that number the funnel web has reportedly racked up is 13 btw…

I love arachnids mainly spiders and scorpions i also include whip spiders whip scorpions and camel spiders. Even tho the names are misleading as they belong to 2 different groups of arachnid. not so keen on ticks and mites. Warning if you have arachnophobia do not read on. Well i don't mind all mites considering 90% of humans have a spices that only lives on us the appropriately named human face mite. Our own tiny pet arachnids that feed on sebum and dead skin. Think of them as a free face cleaning crew. 😂

Also forgot to mention that wolf spiderlings also eat the mother spider while they are clinging to her.

I  am a. Arachnepohob  and my sister has two jumping spiders and I have not over come my fear of spiders there is only one spider I an likely to be okay with and that is a daddy long legs ( cellar spiders or harvest men) I had to deal with them alot in the first house my parents lived in when I was a child.
