Brazilians with a history in drug trafficking have been recruited to fight in the war in Ukraine. They are attracted by the promise of high salaries and, in an exclusive interview with Domingo Espetacular, three of them revealed what their routine is like on the front lines. Identified as “G-S”, “Mestre” and “Predador”, the men left communities in Rio de Janeiro to fight alongside the Ukrainian army in the conflict against Russia.

The three claim they learned about the recruitment through social media and embarked for Europe after obtaining passports and regular documentation. “Predador”, who entered the drug trade at age 14 and was even imprisoned, said he saw the conflict as an opportunity to change his life. “G-S”, 24, stated that he decided to leave the gang to escape the routine violence in Rio's favelas.

Data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that 31 Brazilians have died and 67 are missing in the war in Ukraine.
