Hauptsturmfurher Viktor Graebner (commander of the 9th SS Hohenstaufen's Recon Battalion, SS A.A.9 ) was in a captured Mark IV Humber at the famous Arnhem Bridge battle, and not in a halftrack as shown in A Bridge Too Far,  when he was killed. His Humber was stuck behind  traffic jam of disabled vehicles, so he dismounted to see the bigger picture when a sniper reportedly got him.

The Matchbox Humber was my first modelkit ever. I loved it to pieces, litterally.

My mum's 1949 80" land-rover has lots of whitworth  nuts and bolts along with BSF.  My grandfather who born in 1898, served in ww1 in the transport core. He was an apprentice motor mechanic, which gave him the experience to serve in this role. He called whitworth "Tractor bolts". It's a very course thread.

The metal bracket on the right side of the turret is for mounting a sun compass. These were common in North Africa but useless in Europe. The list of tools and equipment no longer listed the sun compass. The bracket stayed and was handy for hanging stuff on.
The original radiator had rotted away when we got the vehicle from Chris Wilkinson, the restoration firm we used Ian Hughes, replaced it with one from a sno-Cat.
The Humbers mk1,2, and 3 paired the 8mm BESA with the BESA 15mm. The Mk3 added a third man in the turret as radio operator.
The Mk4 replaced the 15mm with the U.S. made M6 37mm. To fit it, they removed the signals operator and gave control to the vehicle commander. The radio was the WS-19. This had two radios built into one box. There was a VHF short range and an HF one for long range. The right rear was the A mast for HF, while the one on the left was the antenna for the B set, the VHF radio. Also in the WS-19 was the intercom for the three crew.
During the restoration, we were put in touch with this car's commander. But that's another story!

Whitworth, well I do have a bag full of whitworth taps. One the other hand, when I was on EOD here in the UK we were clearing an old beach range and I came upon something shiny in the sand. A VIN plate from a MK2 Humber A/C, bit mangled as the poor thing was used as a target. Yet it is still here now in my hand, bought a model kit to build one to the standard of the VIN plate and display both together.

Until he came along every thread was cut by a blacksmith so if you broke a bolt or nut you’d have to create another to fit its opposite number …….but not with whitworth a 3/8W bolt would screw straight into a 3/8W nut …the first engineer to standardise threads !

If I remember right, there were 4 locks per 4n Tonne Bedford, all part of the CES!

When you are discussing the Petrol & Water cans on the rear of the AC, you surmise they may be "flimsies". They are not. These are 2 gallon cans and they were quite hardy. The flimsies were the larger 4 gal cans that were made of exceptionally thin metal. They were about the same height as the 2 gal cans, but, whereas the 2 gal can, looked down upon from above is rectangular, the 4 gal is square. The 2 gal can had a sturdy metal handle but the flimsy had a simple, hinged wire handle.

At 6:10, concerining the steering, I believe the term you're looking for is Ackerman Steering Geometry, and it's highly possible the Humber has it since it's determined by the angle of the arms on the hub, and not some sort of complicated mechanism.

Given that a 1/35 Humber is a planned model project of mine in the future, this video is extremely helpful - and fun!

you need to know it is a hardened alloy steel in the event you need to weld to repair.  this is vital

Your comment about differential steering is 'Ackerman Angle'.  There is no specific mechanism to achieve it - the geometry of the steering arms on each front hub provide the 'Ackerman effect' - the inside wheel on the turn rotates to a greater angle than the outer wheel.  All conventional wheeled vehicles use the principle. and it is entirely due to the angle of the arm on the hub.

The petrol cooker, we were still using them in 70s and as a REME gun fitter it was my job to service and repair them. One exercise I was trying to undo a stubborn valve, so out came the small persuasion tool (1 1/2 lb hammer). "bang, bang" as I hit the spanner. The troop commander came running across and told me to stop as we were supposed to quiet, tactical was the word he used. It was when I mentioned the cooker was given to me to fix by his driver and if I didn't fix it he would not have any dinner, I was told get on with it very very quickly.
The screw threads on the cookers pipe work were British Standard Pipe. We had equipment with USF, USC, Whitworth, BSF, BA and BSP (both parallel and tapered) in imperial measurements plus simple metric.

Funny, it's the same company that later made the Sunbeam Tiger and Alpine. Also held a land speed record
