Sometimes the Kruger is quiet… and then suddenly, everything happens. 🦁🐆🌿

Welcome back to Kruger Kumba Travels – Silent Echoes.

In Episode 3, we start the morning at Skukuza Rest Camp before heading out through the gates and back into the Kruger National Park.

It's an early start, and the bush is already alive.

Animals are moving along the roads as we make our way back towards an area we visited the previous day.

And we're going back for the lions.

🦁 THE LIONS FROM YESTERDAY

In our previous episode, we found lions feeding on a carcass.

But something interesting happened.

Most of the people we had spoken to the previous day were still looking for lions at the original location where they had been reported.

We decided to head back to where we had actually seen them.

And somehow…

we ended up being the only people there.

We take you back to the sighting and show you the footage of the lions feeding on the carcass.

Sometimes in the Kruger, it pays to think differently about where you look for wildlife.

🚗 BACK TO SKUKUZA

After enjoying the lion sighting, we make our way back towards Skukuza.

Along the way we encounter:

🐘 Elephant
🐕 Hyena
🦓 Zebra
🦌 Impala
🐦 Various bird species

Our plans for the day then change.

We head to Skukuza reception to see if we can change our accommodation plans.

Instead of moving back to Pretoriuskop, we decide to stay another night in Skukuza.

And luckily, we manage to make the change.

👨‍👩‍👧 A FAMILY BREAKFAST

We then meet up with some long-lost family and enjoy breakfast together.

It's a great opportunity to catch up before we head back out into the park.

And this time…

Sonique takes over the driving! 🚙🌿

We leave Skukuza and head back out into the Kruger for another day of exploring.

🐘 MORE WILDLIFE ON THE ROAD

As we travel through the park, the sightings continue.

We encounter:

🐒 Baboons
🦒 Giraffe
🐗 Warthog
🐢 Tortoise
🐘 Elephant

We also take some time to explain the road closures caused by the recent flooding and how these closures have affected the routes we're able to travel.

We talk through the roads we've travelled so far and explain where we're heading as we continue our journey.

🥪 NKUHLU PICNIC SITE

Eventually, we arrive at Nkuhlu Picnic Site, where we stop for some lunch.

It's a chance to get out of the vehicle, take a break and enjoy the surroundings before continuing with the afternoon drive.

But the wildlife action isn't finished yet.

🦁 ANOTHER LION SIGHTING

We return to the lion area and discover that the lions are now much more visible.

And this time they're feeding on a fresh carcass.

We take you along for the sighting and show you the lions as they feed.

🌄 MATHEKENYANE VIEWPOINT

From there, we continue towards Mathekenyane Viewpoint.

Sonique talks about the morning's drive and how the sightings along the H1-1 had been relatively slow.

But in the Kruger, you never know what's waiting around the next corner.

Because only a couple of kilometres further…

we find a leopard. 🐆

And not just any leopard.

It's up in a tree with a carcass.

A sighting like this is exactly why you keep driving, even when the road has been quiet.

🌅 ENDING THE DAY

After an incredible day of wildlife encounters, we make our way towards the end of the day's journey.

And what better way to finish than with an African sunset.

From lions…

to elephants…

to a leopard in a tree…

Episode 3 ends with the sun disappearing over the Kruger landscape.

And there's still plenty more to come.
