You are the first "reactor" that has understood that it's about being "heartsick", not ill.

She could sing the ingredients of a ketchup bottle and make us tear up. Loving her and your reactions.

Hello from France, just a clarification on the lyrics because I see a lot of non-French people reacting a little strangely when she says "And even my bed, turns into a station platform, when you go away" .... We have to put all this in context, this song was written in 1973 by Serge Lama, a man and in 1973 the "station platforms" and not "metro stations" were for the most part stations in France, empty places, where only 1 train passed during the day, sometimes only one during the week, a "station platform" was at the time almost always empty, there you go !! Important because I think that many people interpret this differently :), well done for your videos !!

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic,  was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).

When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.

Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song  was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.

But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two  inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.

Lara also had  made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara  became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal)
https://youtu.be/eHSyk4SGtuY
is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.

The most recent ones  I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic

I grew up listening to Celine Dion and Lara Fabian and still I have to admit, as a French Canadian, I still cry when I listen to this song of Lara. By far, one of the song, signer and performer that we have ever seen in my opinion!

Man, wait until you hear "Caruso" and "Perdere L'Amore" in Italian. It is exhilarating. And if you ever ever get a chance to see her perform live, leap at it. I did, I flew 1800 miles because when I heard that voice once there was no question of to go or not. Instant top of the musical bucket list. And it was one of the best choices I ever made, because even twenty-plus years after these videos, she is still magnificent. She'll rip your heart out in any language she chooses, yet can also fire up a crowd and get them moving on the uptempo songs. Greatest entertainer I have ever seen and likely will ever see on  a stage in my life. She has no equal.

This song made me really cry sad tears, because of the words, of course, but mostly because of Lara’s beautiful voice and her emotions when she sang it.

FYI— Lara Fabian’s father is Belgian and mother is Italian.
I enjoyed your comments and will check out more of your reactions, but you need to go back and watch to  the very end!

The lyrics of the song were written in 20 minutes by Serge Lama who lived a secret love. This relationship ended with this woman leaving and talking about this separation that made him sick with Alice Donna, they "pond" the song in one night.
This song was covered by Dalida and others, Lara really made it her song

Lara was certainly born with talent (at 5 years old she was already singing and had decided to be a singer) but talent is nothing without constant study. What we hear today is also the fruit of ten years of Conservatory as a pianist and lyric soprano. We were lucky to have her in the music world and fortunately today she still gives beautiful concerts at 54 years old. 👍Thanks for your comments.

Hi, you can listen this other song of her for the emotional moment ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO3b-MyyTZg  She is the author and composer of this song "Je t'aime". An exceptionnal performance from the public ! 🤩 And excuse my bad english, I'm just a little frenchy ! 🤣

Lara Fabian is a true artist, author, composer and performer.
a sunny woman who catches you like a moth in the light.

lara
the best of humanity....

Well-done, but one suggestion. Rewatch the end of her performance, and watch her face when she's done. She is such a powerful performer, deeply entrenched in the emotion of the song. Just watch her as the audience applauds.

She is the real beast live. Her performances from the same concert as this song are insane!
