The Leaf earns its spot on this list at #11, but it comes with one warning you need to know before you buy: it is the only car here without liquid battery cooling. Every other EV on this list uses active thermal management. The Leaf does not β it never did, in any generation.
In mild climates this is manageable. In hot states like Arizona, Texas, or Florida, battery degradation is noticeably faster than every other car on this list. Check the battery health bars before you test drive. If bars are missing, walk away or negotiate the price down hard.
The 62 kWh pack is significantly more durable than the old 40 kWh β that is why it made the list. But location matters more on this car than any other here.
Also note: The CHAdeMO fast-charge connector is being phased out industry-wide. Plan on Level 2 home charging as your primary option.
Buy it with eyes open and it is a solid, affordable EV. Buy it without knowing this and you may be disappointed. β
