Can the DJI Neo 2 REALLY Fly in the Dark?

Can the DJI Neo 2 actually fly in the dark? We’re about to find out!

ViFly sent us their new Neo2Beam Search Light Dual Pack Kit to try out on Nobby’s Neo 2. Unlike the colorful halo lights we tested previously, these lights are designed to be functional — with two bright forward-facing search lights to illuminate the flight path and downward-facing lights designed to help the Neo 2’s positioning sensors see the ground in low-light conditions.

Of course, the last time ViFly sent us drone lights, we somehow ended up flying through a graveyard at night. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you ask), the graveyard wasn’t available this time, so we headed to the backyard of our church instead.

We start by testing the Neo 2’s ability to hover and use its Follow function as darkness sets in. After a little confusion caused entirely by the pilot 😂, we discover the Neo was doing exactly what it was supposed to do.

Then it’s time for the real test.

We put on the DJI Goggles 3, grab the Motion Controller 3, and take Nobby’s Neo 2 on an FPV flight through a backyard full of trees in the dark to see whether the Neo2Beam provides enough light to actually navigate safely.

Are drone headlights necessary?

Maybe not.

But neither was half the stuff in my drone bag until I found out it existed.

Hey Kev! ViFly are cool for lighting , I use their strobes and can’t fault them ! Awesome video as always buddy and could really see the difference with those headlights , no wonder they blinded you , they looked strong! Could even see the bugs flying about haha ! It’s amazing how much light the camera adds to the shot when it’s really qa lot darker. Flying at night is a whole different experience. Great fun Kevin!

Great test. That backyard at night was a real one. I have been on the fence about the Neo2Beam, but after watching this I am ordering the ViFly kit today. Thanks for putting it through a real flight instead of a perfect demo.

Great video, thanks for the effort. Having several ViFly products, I can attest to the function of their light packages. These must be checked out as well and not just because that "quaffed" beard adds a touch of believability to the hillbillery. Amazed at how much better the drone worked from the additional light. From another drone enthusiast in North Fla. Those are some super bright lights. Totally gives the downward vision sensor enough light to silence the low light warnings. if i had the neo 2 id get them, i have a few dji minis, ill be checking the link more cause i think they make lights for other models too i hope anyways. Great videos, been following "Were the Roberts" for a bit now, you guys are awesome!

I often fly at the grave yards near me, i talk to the residents, telling what im doing, they dont mind really.
I’ve looked for those vifly lights to no avail here in the uk. Never mind but they were nice and bright.keep up the good work.

Kevin, that was a great video. I have 3 ViFly strobes, one on each drone. I really haven’t flown at night, but they keep the birds away in the day time and help with VLOS. Those lights are a great upgrade to fly at night, I just might try them. Take care, God Bless Brother.
