Good morning, afternoon or evening everybody!
Welcome to the first episode of this series, Beginner Vs Pro Tools, where I will be building 2 identical starter kit spitfires, but one I will use only what is provided in the box (plus a few household items), and the other I will build using my entire arsenal of modelling gear.
This first episode focuses on the build of the kit, snipping and cleaning components, the difference cements on offer and a brief dive into painting on the cockpit.

Good editing decision to do the builds side by side instead of beginner and then pro.

Algo helped me find your channel mate - great first video for me! I'm an experienced but time poor modeller so love this type of content so I know where to really invest/time money and where to just crack on with the basic. Also - no pilot mate!? Come on. Especially on a flying stand :D

A great video topic! Another interesting video would be to give a beginner all the extra tools and have a more experience modeller use more basic tools. I wonder if having all these extra tools would help the newer modeler close the skill gap a little bit.

The gear helps, for sure... but it all boils down to talent... an expensive guitar or pro golf clubs wont make you play better

Best tool I'd recommend, are sanding sticks. More controllable than loose sandpaper against a soft finger tip pad.

I am surprised you are not using a glass file like the Gunprimer Raser. I have personally found they are my second favorite tool when building a kit, surpassed only by my Godhand nippers.

You still see your experience helping to get a decent result, even with the basic tools. Great work, still wondering what would it look like without the exp, just beeing a beginner though.

I feel like limiting painters tape and sandpaper...two of the most common household repair kit items to the "pro" tools while giving a scalpel to the "noob" tools is a bit strange... Considering that both are (if I am not mistaken) part of the reccomended aditional items in the starter kits manual.
Also, not sure if it applies to this particular kit, but other starter kits I have seen reccomended using toothpicks to apply the glue instead of directly from the tube/bottle.

It looked more like a "no tools" vs "proper tools" build. Instead of the "beginners/self made" tools vs "pro tools" comparrison.

It's not just about gear it's skills and knowing how to use equipment and supplies

A starter kit will help a new model maker with patience put together something acceptable.

A skilled model maker will use that same kit and items but will make a much better presentation even using the basic supplied starter kit

A new or inexperienced model maker with all the equipment but no experience using it will probably not make anything much better than they would with a basic starter kit because they wont know about how to utilise equipment or supplies

However add the skills to go with the equipment and a model maker that understands how to actually use the equipment and use modeling supplies properly will again make a much superior presentation

Model making is something you learn and progress by building skills and experience regardless of what equipment you have. Its about building confidence skills and practice
