Go Mick, first thing I'd do is check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, then rip the sump and oil pump to free up the relief valve. To set the lifter clearance in your situation they need to be adjusted at idel with normal idle oil pressure. So get the oil side sorted and the do the lifers like this. With it idling back one rocker off until it's clacking then do it up until it stops, then very slowly take it down a full half turn, go slow here because you are collapsing the internal plunger in the the lifter, in other words bleeding it down like you would in a vice. In your case I'd go around all the lifters just to shut them up then do each one as I sead, off till they really clack, this allows the lifter to fully pump up so you can then blead it down the half turn. It can take 30 secs to a minute to slowly blead it down. The engine will miss on the cycle your doing because your holding the valve open until the lifter bleeds out the oil under the plunger giving you zero clearace, but once it blends down it will start firing again. If the were new lifters you'd set the up basically the same way, tighten each nut while on the base circle of the cam twisting the push rod untill it nips up then the half turn more. Your lifters are full of oil whereas new ones are empty and need to pump up
Love you work fella, when you get her hurtling on all 8 idling sweetly post her up

A long video, but that's what we get from you. (Like watching Gone with the Wind). Thoroughly enjoy your humor and knowledge of all things especially sketchy stuff, don't shorten the videos they're great. Happy to know you weren't affected by all the rain...John

Mick -the struggle is real! Great to see it’s not just us that get stumped. Please do a follow up video as you solve the mystery. Great content!!

Hi mick, I can’t tell you how much I love all your video’s, this one had me laughing…all the oil issues 😂. You are a top Aussie for sure

GOOD video, gives people faith, they can do it at home, being careful

From past experience in my younger days inlet manifolds would crack over time this causes lean mixture and carbie pops backfires

It looks to me that a very proud Italian painted that engine back in the late 70’s or early 80’s 😂

First time viewer here.... great video ...looking forward to seeing more from you 👍

brilliant , i just glad i,m relaxed on a couch and not out in my shed doing the same work you are.

Watched every minute you legend. Love the perseverance

Why was I nervous when you were undoing that oil pressure sensor? I was hiding under a blanket 😂.This has become a suspense thriller 😂. Great to watch.

Afternoon Mickles, I’ll have to remember to send this video to my 6yr old nephew who’s become a car nut in an IT family. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and bullshittery
