I sat down with Heidi in Cebu to talk Philippines visa rules that are catching retirees, tourists, and military vets off guard. Immigration is getting stricter — and if you are thinking about moving to the Philippines to live on Social Security, you need to hear this before you book your flight.
A missing return flight can get you turned away at the airport. Cash over $10,000 USD has to be declared, and you cannot bring in more than 50,000 pesos. Tourist visa extensions are still on a 60-day cycle. The new Alien Registration Program now means biometrics and a photo, and you need an Exit Clearance Certificate if you stay 6 months or more.
We also cover the Balikbayan privilege for men married to a Filipina — why it is not permanent residency — and the SRRV courtesy path for military retirees. The age for that program just dropped to 40-49. The deposit is $3,000 USD with a pension or $6,000 without. A lot of vets still show up without an apostille on the DD214, and many mix up the $1,500 deposit with the $1,600 in application and annual fees.
This is a conversation, not legal advice. Rules and fees change. If you are retiring in the Philippines, planning a long term visa, or checking the Philippines visa process before you fly, watch this before you book.
