Malaysia Built an Entire Capital City... So Why Does It Feel EMPTY? 🇲🇾
We took a self led day trip from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya, Malaysia's purpose built administrative capital, using only the metro. What we found was one of the strangest, most beautiful places we've ever visited.
In this video: the Seri Wawa Bridge, the stunning Putra Mosque (the "Pink Mosque"), a biryani lunch for under £10, the whitest coffee we've ever seen, a 50p water taxi across the man made lake, the Millennium Monument, and the Iron Mosque (Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque), 70% steel and naturally air conditioned by design.
Putrajaya was built between 1995 and 2001 when Malaysia moved its government out of Kuala Lumpur into this brand new city. Today it's one of the most striking and least visited places in the country, and we wanted to know why nobody talks about it.

First, traffic is only really bad during peak hours, and even then it's nowhere near as congested as KL. Second, they have almost everything here, from the largest shopping mall in Southeast Asia to countless scenic walking and cycling paths spread across 12 beautiful parks. The city is also known for its well-planned infrastructure, wide roads, impressive architecture, and numerous seasonal events throughout the year.
Also one thing many visitors don't realize is that Malaysians generally avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day. Between around 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., most people stay indoors where there's air conditioning. Once the sun starts to set, however, the city comes alive. Parks, lakesides, cafés, and public spaces fill with people walking, jogging, cycling, and spending time with family and friends.
