Hey there! Just wanted to say that I absolutely love your video series on D&D necromancers. It’s always been my favorite fantasy archetype, and I’ve been dying to play one at the table. Finding all the most relevant homebrew options in one place, complete with quick reviews, was incredibly helpful.

I do have a question though, and I’d love to get the opinion of someone who really knows their stuff. If you had to pick a homebrew necromancer for an upcoming campaign—something that is the best overall and perfectly captures the ultimate "lord of the dead" fantasy—which one would you choose? I know they all have their strengths, but which homebrew would you call the absolute definitive necromancer? One that feels powerful, lets you command an undead army, and wield devastating death magic?

Right now, I’m leaning towards the Complete Necromancer by Mage Hand Press. It lets you explore so many sub-archetypes, from classic concepts like the Death Knight to totally exotic ones like the florist necromancer or the necrodancer. It also feels strong enough compared to other classes to really let you play out that all-powerful lich fantasy. Plus, Complete Necromancer adds tons of thematic spells and—what’s crucial for me—the brew is just way more intuitive and well-written. I didn't have to strain myself to understand how it works. On the flip side, Pointy Hat’s randomness and overall complexity didn't quite sit right with me. Also, the army management in Complete Necromancer feels much more classic compared to Pointy Hat’s swarm mechanic, which is way closer to what I prefer.

By the way, I don't know if you've heard, but Mage Hand Press actually updated Valda's Spire of Secrets for the 2024 ruleset. They added quite a few new spells for the necromancer and even gave some of the subclasses some cool new features.

But these are just my thoughts after playing only the Complete Necromancer; I’ve only looked at the other homebrews on paper. That’s why I need an outside perspective—which homebrew is statistically the best on average and hits that necromancer fantasy perfectly?

By the way, I totally don't get the whining about using AI in videos. My god, those people are completely detached from reality and are just tilting at windmills.

Thanks again for the awesome videos! :)

no place for AI in the ttrpg space

Pointyhat would vomit at the sight of your slop thumbnail

How about MCDM’s the Talent??

Heads up: If I notice a channel utilizes AI anyway, ESPECIALLY in thumbnails, I mark them as "Not recommend". It also makes me hypervigiliant of any other AI usage, such as scriptwriting in the video itself.

Either spend 15 minutes in an image editor or have someone else do it.

Mother Fucker! I've been basically designing this exact class my self, since like 2022, and theirs reads like a kid who coppied your homework and changed it just a bit.

This has Vestige, I had Eternal Companion, they have Empowered Psychopomp, I had Thrall Possession, They cast Revenge, I cast Echo of Agony.

They JACKED my Swag!

Hey man, I can tell you’re really passionate about DnD and that’s awesome, but gen AI really goes against everything the hobby’s about. I’m not gonna preach things that have already been said, but I would really like to see you succeed without utilizing technology that hurts the environment and takes the personality and soul out of the videos. I really hope to see more human-made thumbnails and scripts from you

No, pointy hat can't save anything d&d related because he is terrible at d&d/d&d advice
