Disturbed by the cursor? Here is a version without: https://youtu.be/JyI_h3t34J8?si=MXmpo601-9ZBAnxq

Cursor or no cursor. I accept the cursor, I neither want the cursor to stay, or the cursor to go. There is just cursor

The cursor is a dealbreaker for me. I choose to live the rest of my life in suffering and ignorance.

The cursor was a nice touch, that only teaches much of Zen-Buddhism

Dont just do something! Sit there!

What a relief to be empty, then God can live your life.”
- Rumi

People are being distracted by a tiny mouse cursor sitting still in the middle of the screen. Usually, a mouse cursor is moving around searching what to click next. Be like the mouse cursor. "Seek nothing, just sit." Or let it be proof that you are easily distracted by the smallest of things.

If you are able to sit, that's an accomplishment, because the majority are simply exhausting themselves by endless seeking and achieving what only lasts for a few moments and beginning a gain. Worse, you get to the end of your life and see all the time that you squandered as my father did.

I don't know anything about Zen, but I think the Zen thing would be for Hirotaza to go back to Tokyo and be the most mindful dad he can, without the monastery props of Zen all around him.

As someone who practice Zen Buddhist meditation, I really appreciated the documentary. I think Hirotada should do the same thing as Buddha did, looking for his answers than go back to his kids as a monk, as a father or maybe both.

I Didn't know the cursor was such a major part of this documentary until I started reading the comments...haha - nonetheless thank you for such a wonderful insight into Antaiji and a life away from conceptualized social standards. It was truly a peaceful video to watch through. To all the practitioner at the temple : Where you are is exactly where you need to be, there is nothing better here or there. Keep the practice and you will learn to be ok, being anywhere - Practice & not practice. Gain a routine and lose it. Traveling from one extreme to and from the other will give you the contrast to see the middle way - the no way. An important part of Buddha's teaching is in his example.

Zen Buddhism is gift for world 🙏

You can see a solidity within Myogen's answer at the end of the video. That's the Hallmark of a true spiritual seeker. Even though I'm not a monk, I too have been forced to practice meditation to lessen my own mental torment. Sometime it becomes too much. But then I remember that enduring life's suffering is actually the fast track of spiritual growth. And then I feel better.

Thanks NHK and this channel for passing it on.

I will say a little about my situation as this documentary was very illuminating. In my heart I can feel my seeking for something, that distortion and delusion. I was a soto zen Buddhist for several years and also practised in a zen monastery for a month on a retreat. At that time, suddenly I awakened to my inner voice. After having several satoris I accepted that my time there had come to an end and left the same way I had came.
In my life, I still love zen and infact I felt when I encountered Jodo Buddhism the feeling was indescribable. It's like I rediscovered it again.
My soul rejoiced and I've followed it ever since. In Jodo Shu we say once we are embraced by Amida Buddha we are never abandoned. I am sure that in a previous life I entrusted myself to Amida but was not ready until this life to fully accept the teachings 🙏🏻
It's interesting they arrive in the temple and they have the same questions I suppose I did and we all can have. What is the meaning of life, why do we suffer, etc?
In my view, both of these questions though they may appear different are the same. They are connected.
What is the meaning of life for me is to follow the Buddha's teachings.
Why do we suffer for me it's because we do not follow the Buddha's teachings 😂
The more I follow the Buddha's teachings the less I suffer. As a Jodo Shu Buddhist it's ok to be a lay person, we don't need to be a monk to follow the teachings wholeheartedly.
Though in zen perhaps that is not the case.
I live my life meaningfully and with gratitude. There are times when I feel upset, or seeking, etc. But, I just recognise those feelings hopefully quickly and accept them 😂
Thanks for reading
May all beings be healthy and whole.

Peaceful life,no gadget, no distractions what so ever..

This is a beautiful documentary. Thank you 🙏

Love Japan ! Blessed country to have such spaces.

I did not notice the cursor. I was so engage listening to them and what they're doing.

Don't try to push your thoughts away. This is an endless endeavor. Work such that they don't pull you away.
