the next time you go to flat sand the drums edge .... rub a pencil lead around the entire edge ... as you are flat sanding you can take a peak after a few moments to see if all of the pencil lead had been removed = FLAT !
One ply ambassadors gets the most free vibration giving the shell the ability to sing. Forget about multi-ply heads on vintage drums. Your taking away from the allure. Great vid
Great information on that small piece of wood to protect the wrap edge! Does that little wheel on top of the router adjust sobthe shell doesn't get too close? And I could fit my Ludwig power kit , 13, 16, 24, snare, cymbal and trap case in my 1965 Corvair Monza! Lol.
Really interesting Michael, thanks. Question: when you recut like you did, how much would you expect to take off from the drum? In other words, if the floor tom is 14" high and you recut the bearing edges, what would it measure afterward, 13.5"? Thanks.
