I am trying to learn both Alpha Strike and Aces at the exact same time with the ultimate goal of converting Aces to BT classic. This is quite an undertaking, talk about a brain cramp! You are helping me immensely along this journey, so thank you!

17:17 absolutely, buildings are useful to block los or get cover so hugging them is a regular thing

A chap I played a few games with loved to spam buildings as his force were brawlers, so I spammed LRM mechs and used a scout for spotting, suffice it to say his force died long before he reached my force, lol

Very good video! This helps so much! 9:30 interesting. My first thought was going North with the Warhhawk so the tower and the flat building block LOS to all units but the Victor. It's good to see that the human element makes this more interesting than a PC-AI.

I am only at the 12 minute mark, and I am going back in time essentially as a returning player to appreciate your more current Classic and Alpha Strike Chaos Campaigns via your previous tutorials, but boy is it nice to get more Ace card/ movement deliberation break down.

While this is clearly a tutorial as you are breaking down every element, it could also be helpful (as someone not in the room between camera takes) to see just a bit of this kind of break down in the more current videos. One recurring frustration I have when watching BT Classic and Alpha Strike battle reports is that content creators tend to jump through everything in a quick cut to the attack rolls. As someone coming from more traditional Board Game gameplays, this makes a lot of the BT content feel like an abstract series of attack rolls rather than a game. Sure, the combat rolls are the thrilling bit, and maybe that is the core differences between a "battle report" and a "let's play" series, but I propose that the stuff outside of the combat rolls are also valuable context.  This is maybe especially true when the Aces (automata) cards are being used (or tweaked in the case of Classic). I think it would be especially helpful as one tries to evaluate the benefits and weaknesses of different Battletech systems/ rules as you often do (and is one reason I keep coming back to your content).

In any case, thank you for the tutorial series.

Finally sourced it in the UK , arrived yesterday. Already read the rules and training campaigns but that was sometime ago, I had thought it unlikely I would get this after my pre-order allocation was short.
This is a great series to learn/refresh.
I agree with the play area issue and for Alpha Strike prefer maps as you get a larger play area in a smaller footprint, using half-hex = 1"/ 2" per hex. The AS terrain works well with hexes and you can hug it allowing half-hex movement.
I am expecting Galeforce 9 HexT double sided hex mat tomorrow, generic no terrain grass/arid, 36" x 22" = 72 x 44 in game terms, which will be ideal.
I have set up for tonight the Tutorial on a 4x4 as I have a LevelUp table topper to go on my 3 foot table, I still find hexes better for solo play as tend to sit rather than walking around table , which at 4' fills most of my space anyway.

It came through in your explanation about building hugging that the Sniper unit would get cover from it's target but  clear line of sight to it. It's important to remember that LOS and cover goes both ways. If it has cover, the  target also has cover.

Like your video.  There is a slight correction to where you move the mechs. On page 14 of the rules it says when you get to a filter for the move, there is no need to check the rest of the filters.  So the Timber Wolf should move up to get as many enemy as possible is targeting range.  The rest of the filters do not apply.

The rulebook says not to overthink it too much. Just do what you think would be the best move for the model based on the instructions.

Before the LRM fix, Kraken 3 was the undeniable top of the override pile. Disagree on it being no use, it’s two mechs worth of long ranged and indirect firepower.

Where did you get the trees?

How did you determine that the clan units are all starting at skill 2 for shooting purposes?

The issue I have with pilot die stuff is it is not in the book. I am just starting out and it confused the heck out of me as I was trying to learn the game.
I turn off channels that are not using the actual game rules. So thanks!
