We Do Not Lose Heart — Part One (Archived)

Alistair Begg

79,521 views

Though he faced significant opposition throughout his life and ministry, the apostle Paul was compelled to keep on preaching, working to spread the Gospel even in the most difficult circumstances. Alistair Begg uses Paul’s example to encourage today’s pastors to rely on God’s strength when they feel weak, to seek His grace when disappointments arise, and to take heart in challenges, knowing that God’s power is best displayed as He preserves His own in times of trouble.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:7-18
Preached: May 9, 2016

What an encouraging sermon. As an ex heroin addict and hardcore alcoholic who would have been dead if Lord Jesus Christ didn't save me from the mess I got myself into I am living proof of God's power to change and restore and I owe him what ever remainder of my life I have left to testify of his grace, love, and power.

My heart has been so heavy lately over was is happening in our nation,this message has spoken right to my heart,to pray and to trust God though all that we see happening,and to remember that no matter what evil we see God is in control,and that truth and His will be done.

I'm so thankful to know that Paul, Alistair, others are all like me, easily tempted and sinful. Great sermon!

The reality of what it is to work for the Lord Jesus. "I could not work my soul to save, for this my Lord has done, but I can work like any slave for love of God's own son." @20:00

How many so-called people who say they're Christians but true are not born again are going to fall away because of listening to this message yeah they're probably saying who wants to be stoned who wants to be robbed who wants to be killed who wants to go through all these trials and tribulations but see that's the working of our faith is to trust the Lord look all what he did for us are we not to do the same because of Christ because of the word so we're persecuted what a light affliction what a blessing to be as Christ was those who are doing it don't even know what they're doing all they know is that they want to murder they want to kill they went to Rob or they want to destroy because they are of their father the devil they don't know any better they're in their sinful nature so they're going to do what they're going to do but the Lord is with us we are guaranteed to be with the Lord when we are a martyr for our faith hallelujah trust the Lord always he is the one who will avenge us of all our adversaries Glory hallelujah what a mighty God we serve our enemies are have been defeated,

31:54 it’s not only that it is in this that the power of God is displayed, but it is only in humility and weakness recognized that God is known
43:23 we should be more afraid of commendation than criticism

45:47 we find ourselves captivated by stars only when we cannot see the Son
We find ourselves preoccupied with men only when we are turned from the Son

Lord God, thank you for the many blessings in my life. Give me the strength compassion and perseverance to stick to the path you have laid out for me. I know in my heart your plan for my life is the right one, but I need your help to understand it and follow where you lead. I want to be a better Christian and an example of your goodness, wisdom and glory. I ask these things in the name of your son Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏

we do make more spiritual progress in our trials than our successes.

103 (3) Psalm 103 Version 3 8 7. 8 7. 4 7
PRAISE, my soul, the King of Heaven;
To His feet your tribute bring!
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like me His praise should sing!
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise the everlasting King!

2 Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress!
Praise Him still the same as ever,
Slow to chide and swift to bless!
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Glorious in His faithfulness!

3 Father-like He tends and spares us,
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Widely as His mercy flows.

4 Frail as summer’s flower we flourish;
Blows the wind, and it is gone;
But while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise the high eternal One.

5 Angels, help us to adore Him,
Who behold Him face to face;
Sun and moon bow down before Him,
Dwellers all in time and space.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise with us the God of grace!

Henry Francis Lyte, 1793-1847
