My Grandfathers favourite fighter, itβs wonderful seeing him doing so well now as a older statesman of the sport. He made the best of his mistakes and came out a stronger man for it
Thanks for this Rich. I remember John Conteh when I was a kid in the 70s. A likeable guy and a highly skilled boxer. These days mental health and anxiety are all out in the open; back then it was taboo - shameful even Very sad. How fortunate for him that his wife stayed with him through thick and thin.
I was in a rehab with his brother and being from over the water and brought up in the '70s had some great conversations about John. True warrior no matter how his career ended.
Thanks Rich. For a lot of us Brits who were around in the seventies Conteh was and still is an icon. Great episode as per usual. Also pleased that John was able to come through his demons.
Back in the 80s I was a mini cab driver in Herts. I would often drive John around, even to meet Ronnie Corbett at a charity golf match. John was very friendly and very humble.
As a lifelong boxing fan and ex amateur boxer myself I have always considered Mr Conteh as pound for pound one of the very best to come out of the UK. Definetely the best light heavyweight

John is doing really well nowadays. Doing after dinner speaking and meets and greets. And the best thing is, he is as sharp as a tack, and has all his faculties. Anyway Rich - Thanks Again. Bless You.π₯π₯π₯ππ
Thanks Rich! As a kid I remember JC being everywhere on TV and in the media. He really was a huge star back in the 70's here in The UK. Growing up in Kirby in the 60's would be enough to challenge anyone I would imagine. A tough life from the very beginning. Through it all though he always seemed to have a smile on his face. A true scouser! Great video.
