Honestly, living with in-laws isn't an Islamic tradition. it's a cultural practice within South Asian communities.

This was a much better conversation because they're all speaking from a place of experience and are more Islamically informed about what they are saying. Nice to see them starting dialogue between themselves without the host interfering too much. Very insightful balanced conversation !

Much better episode, its great to see muslim men and women who are actually married speaking from experience. Rather than single brothers and sisters who may have never been married speaking on topics they dont have knowledge of.

Mashallah, these brothers and sisters seemed a lot more mature and relating everything back to the Quran than the other videos! Enjoyed this more!

I think the framing of the question, “Muslim men are the cause of Muslim women’s suffering”, made it almost impossible for the panel to have the discussion that was actually worth having. It’s such a broad statement that of course the immediate response is going to be criticism of the premise rather than an examination of the issue behind it.

There was a much more important conversation sitting underneath that question: the prevalence of violence against Muslim women, particularly domestic violence, rape, coercive control and other crimes against women, and the extent to which these crimes are underreported because victims may fear retaliation, being ostracised by their families or communities, financial consequences, losing their children, or even serious violence or death if they report or try to leave.

That doesn’t mean we should make sweeping assumptions about Muslim men or pretend every unreported case can simply be added to the statistics. But it does mean that recorded crime figures cannot necessarily tell us the whole story, and the barriers preventing women from reporting abuse are themselves worth examining.

I think the question should have been framed around why these forms of abuse can persist, what role patriarchal social structures, cultural expectations, religious interpretations and community pressures play, and why some women find it so difficult to seek help or leave.

You can have that conversation without claiming that every Muslim man is responsible for Muslim women’s suffering. In fact, I think that would have been a far more interesting and productive discussion than spending the entire segment rejecting the wording of the original statement. It felt like a missed opportunity.

As a woman I don’t expect a man or my husband to be strong, a leader and not show “weakness”. I would very much like my husband to show vulnerability to me in fact I’ll respect him more cause that means he trusts me enough to bare himself like that to me. I would want my husband to be my best friend you can be as vulnerable in fact cry all you want if it’ll make you feel better. There’s no point having a man out there with bottled up emotions because people think it weak for a man to be vulnerable. It’s harmful
