This was an AMAZING video for super beginners! I am not a super beginner, as I've been surrounded by aquariums my whole life, but I just bought my first canister filter (Fluval 307) and I was little lost on how to arrange the media. I'm not lost anymore, and you were so engaging that I watched the entire video rather than skipping around to find what I needed. You provided so much useful information and those pro tips were helpful for both beginners and those who have been doing this for a while. Very clear, very organized, and right to the point with valuable information. Thank you!

Washing your media with chlorinated tap water is actually fine aslong as its done quikly like 30-40 seconds, the bacteria has to be exposed for longger than you think ive done this for years with no noticeable die back

Kaveman Aquatics, this is one of the best youtube instructional videos I've ever seen. Clear, organized, high quality, and straight forward. Beginners and experts can both enjoy this video. You know what you're doing man, keep up the good work. Liked and Subscribed!

I adopted a neglected red eared slider from another teacher in September to rehome in my middle school’s library. Emilia now lives like a queen and has grown almost twice her original size! I appreciate that your videos are easy to understand so even this beginner turtle mama knows just what to do to keep her baby healthy and happy.

good video, I actually went out and bought a 407 after watching your video, Fluval should give you royalties!!!!!!

Fascinating to watch. Every novice aquarist should absolutely watch this. In fact, if you’re interested in keeping fish, you should just go ahead and subscribe. Kave Man videos have great production, they move through the topic thoroughly, quickly and stay right on point without all the goofy tangents. It’s always enlightening to learn such simple, but all important details and why. Well done, Kev & the Kave Man crew!

Thank you! This was awesome. I am getting back into having a fish tank and I bought a used 75 gallon that came with the Fluval 407 and had no idea how to assemble the filter media. You explained everything very clearly.

Just started watching and this is the best true informative video I've seen.. Thanks for sharing and making it understandable. 👍👍

Every once in awhile I have to come back if I forget the reasons for or the order of the filtration, and then I watch the whole episode again. Thanks for being here. :)

Thank you, this is the best video available for the Fluval 307 filter media order. You’ve got a professional style, I think you’re going to do well here!

Great video!!!! Thank you!! One thing I’ve learned with chemical filtration: I don’t use charcoal/activated carbon in heavily planted tanks. The reason is algae. Activated carbon absorbs everything including essential nutrients, but leaves enough for algae to grow. So for heavily planted tanks, I would only use carbon temporarily to remove medicines etc… Long term use will deplete nutrients for plants, but will create a haven for algae. Of course, not to worry in tanks with no plants. Thanks again for this really comprehensive video. You do a great job!!

@iuyozx 4 years ago

I’d add that soap or detergents should never be used when cleaning aquarium equipment.

I love your comment about not necessarily needing carbon. Regular, partial water changes will yield greater dividends.
