My argument, in a nutshell: the Siri theory that Mel Gibson puts forward is both unsubstantiated and completely implausible; taken seriously, this (and the various other forms of sedevacantism) all logically result in the Church being in a situation that both Our Lord and the First Vatican Council promise that we're never going to be in. So it's not just a weak argument, it's a heretical argument which we know to be false.

Most of the responses from sedevacantists so far: name-calling, personal attacks, Pope Francis is bad, complaints that I shouldn't be debunking sedevacantism, and bare assertions that "of course" there's no pope.

Guys, do you see how none of these are rebuttals of my argument? You're not covering yourselves in glory right now. (And apologies in advance if I have missed substantive responses from sedevacantists in the sea of bad takes).

I've been Catholic for almost a year. My priest asked me if I was facing any backlash for my conversion, but I didn't fully understand why he asked that until a few months after when the preacher who married us was visibly angry with my wife and me. It's been getting more frequent here lately, and I have been feeling a bit of fatigue. It actually inspired me to find more information to help explain why I converted, and it's been a big help in resolving my faith. Finding this channel feels like a Godsend, and I'm very grateful for your all's contributions and assistance

It's been nice to hear the gospel on Rogan, but having Wes Huff say that the Catholic Church tried to suppress the Bible, followed by having Mel Gibson (2 days later) saying that the face of the Catholic Church isn't the real Church is deeply concerning.

I don't think it's such a "hidden" danger. Thank you for all you do, JH.

Joe Heschmeyer = straight-up awesome guy

I was almost a sedevacantist once. I was listening to some of their arguments and I was convinced that something was wrong. It got to the point that I wouldn't even receive communion because I didn't trust that the priests, even the priests serving TLM in my town, were validly ordained. As a convert, it broke my heart to see all the offenses and degradations to my new beloved home. But overtime, I began to hear Jesus call to me, everytime communion was served. I was thoroughly confessed, going to mass multiple times a week, and at every communion Jesus would call me. Why wasn't I going to receive Him? He wanted me, I needed Him. Finally I got fed up with it. I realized that it must be real communion if Jesus was calling me to receive. If it wasn't, then Jesus wouldn't have said anything, He would have called me elsewhere. And it didn't make sense in my convert brain, why I would adhere to another branch of Protestantism when  specifically made the jump into Catholicism. What is Catholicism but the unity of Christ's people around His altar, around His flesh and blood. Once I got my head wrapped around the fact that Jesus was still present, I had to come to terms with priestly ordination, and then papal succession.

I'm no Pope-splainer, nor am I happy about the grievances that have come about because of the Novus Ordo, but I learned that if I can trace it all back to Jesus, then I can trust Him and His church, no matter how bad it looks, or how far off the reservation Pope Francis goes.

I was going to be a sedevacantist, but balked at the cost of all the thumbtacks, yarn, and corkboards I would need. 🤣

The epitome of "too smart for your own good"

I think this is more problem with Joe Rogan's podcast. Popularists are who get on the show, no matter where they lean. It is not there to promote truth, as much as some may think otherwise with Wes's appearance. It's a podcast- entertainment, not an evangalising or truth seeking tool.

Some crackpot idea from Gibson is perhaps less damaging than Rogan’s claim – spoken with total confidence and one that Mel basically let pass – that the Catholic Church is a “dark institution”, as that view is shared by many.

Well argued, Joe! Gibson has long had issues that Catholics should be wary of. The problem now has just been given a much larger platform.

I'm not even 3 minutes in. However, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for addressing this. I'd been looking for a video from one of our brilliant apologists who would tackle it.

It started off so good, and as someone who is investigating Catholicism I was super happy to see a Catholic on the show. I was a little disappointed. Still super interesting though.

I’m a new Catholic. This civil war is a terrible thing. I’m way to new and ignorant it have an opinion about Francis’s validity. I did read that st Gregory the great proclaimed we must never slander or detract a Catholic clergyman. I do know that Francis isn’t the first pope that’s hard to love. I just pray he does Gods will.

Glad someone is pointing it out.  A lot of Catholics that I follow on X were excited about what he had to say but no one seemed concerned by his sedevacantist views.
