The Ummah in the West has been split for over 25 years due to this very slanderous, unbrotherly behavior. While sincere, this tactic is of no benefit to the Ummah. You mentioned the disagreements amongst the Ummah after the time of the Prophet SAW. This is the best evidence that differing can lead to major weakening of the Ummah and is clearly not effective in bringing people together in true unity. may Allah Azza Wa Jall guide us all. The people of Salafiyyah do not instantaneously refute someone due to mere differences of opinion. Advisement with proofs are given. Rebuttals are allowed. If one is in error, then the opportunity to retract is encouraged. However, if the error is made clear on multiple occasions and the one who is in error refuses to retract and continues upon that which is incorrect, then that individual is warned against at that time. There is a process. A process that doesn't reach its final destination at the time differences occur.

Perhaps you didn't intend to imply that refutations occur immediately upon the occurrence of differences. However, others could have come to an alternate conclusion, just as I did. So in essence, you are correct that no one should be immediately refuted at the time a difference of opinion occurs. Wallaahu a'alam.
