I was a young man in my late teens when Menhuin played the Elgar with the symphony I was with at the time. I gathered my courage and went to his dressing room where I could hear him warming up. I knocked on his door which was ajar, and there he was. He gave me a good look up and down with his intelligent eyes. I told him of my admiration for him. I had my viola in  hand and he was  holding a radiant violin.  I asked him if it was a Strad; he replied "oh yes it is and a very fine one indeed." I learned thereafter the Strad was the Soil.
He was very kind and gentle in manner and spoke to me as though we were colleagues. My admiration for him grew larger. He was a very fine man.

I expected this to be a typical masterclass with some green student. But then I noticed Desmond Bradley's name. He was a first-class artist, and he deserves to be remembered.

I absolutely love Yehudi. He was a complete violinist: versatile, talented, intelligent, sensitive, and incredibly polite. His personality captivates me as much as his art. For me, there's no one else like him with those qualities.

Such an amazing man. I had a close encounter with him when I was a laddie in Scotland. His warmth and generosity of spirit was an inspiration.

Yehudi is very well spoken I enjoy listening to him

There is a wisdom of the Head, and … there is a wisdom of the Heart.Menuhin had both kinds of wisdom, and at a very high level. He was a rare man, it's a shame that there are few or none of them today.

He was more than a violinist. He was a thinker who reflected deeply on his art. As a young student, I heard him give a talk at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, in 1960, on  “The Artist‘s Role in Society “. It made sense to me.

such a wonderful conversation, so interesting

Menuhin speaks beautifully and profoundly of the second subject of the concerto. He puts into words what can't be.

Desmond Bradley plays so well. The Elgar is not easy but presented few problems from him except that tricky harmonics arpeggio in the cadenza.

Menuhin's observations are fascinating and unique in that he played the work many times with Elgar, and kept it in his repertoire.

Menuhin made a recording as conductor for Dmitri Sitkovetsky where he's attentive to every nuance and whips up a fiery exposition on the first movement that will surprise you.

What a beautiful tone, and great understanding of Elgar, by Desmond Bradley - and then we get the very insightful comments by Menuhin, a lovely video and a treasure of the past.  I only just found out that Desmond Bradley was also a composer.

it is wonderful to see and hear Anthony Saltmarsh play again. He was my teacher when I was a teenager. He had a voluptuous and warm sound. Does any more of this film survive? Mr Saltmarsh as i called him studied with Albert Sammons who also had a close relationship with the Elgar concerto. thank you so much for this it has brought back many happy memories.

Wonderful commentaries by Menuhin❗️He doesn't criticize the violinist at all. He just gives a background and ideas about the "Aura" of the piece, and how you can think about it. Just a tremendous interview with the kindest man and incredibly perceptive person. 16
years old when he learned and performed it.❗️🎻🥀

I love listening their conversation, they are so polite

such a treat.

Yehudi Menuhin is so accurate and a total gentleman. Hearing him speak is like eating a wonderful chocolate cake. He is so kindred and generous ( and sexy 😂😂😂❤❤)
