Fun fact the reason Ember and Wade can touch has to do with something called the Leidenfrost effect. Because Ember burns hotter than the boiling point, when they touch the outer layer of water creates a steam barrier. Usually this only lasts for a bit however, I think it helps that they aren't 100% accurate versions of their elements, seeing as they can hold and wear things. They're more solid making them capable of keeping their form.

Unfortunately, the the current Pixar they are being forced to do more commercially safe movies (I think one of the studio heads said "movies everyone can connect to"), so you're not going to see another Elemental. Personal stories like that of a child of two immigrant parents in an interracial relationship is too narrow for them. I hope they change their minds though, because this movie is amazing and important. I am neither of those two things and I connected with it anyways.
