I believe that in its early days, the Mafia's purpose was to prevent abuses against the population of Sicily at that time. However, it doesn't work in these modern times, and even less so in the United States, where scrutiny is more effective. A well-known philosopher said that dictatorships are destined to fail because they go against divine law. When someone is accepted as a member of a Mafia family, they perform a prophetic act where they prick their finger and pour a little blood on the image of a saint. What the person doing this doesn't know is that they are surrendering themselves to a spiritual entity that will destroy them directly and indirectly, as well as their own family. And I wonder why a person would incur such a curse?
