Ray makes a dump a home and makes a situation a home...where as grylls fails to snare rabbits. So buys one. The factual knowledge ray promotes is amazing.
Id pay alot of money to walk beside this man on one of his trips, this guy has so much knowledge of the bush it is insane! I have watched a weeks worth of Mears and I am gonna run out of vids soon :(
So nice to see him advocating respect for nature, and responsible use of resources. This is unfortunately so rare in any bushcraft or survival videos, websites, etc. It's about adapting yourself to your environment, and learning from nature and from others with humility. If you try to fight nature 'man vs wild' style, nature will win.
my favourite episode is this one, he even mentions sharing a fire technique with tribe from a previous episode, that was a golden moment worth watching, and how cosy did ray look when he was sitting near those badgers
I'd definitely buy a book like that and he already has a few similar ones, but I think this shows format was one of the best possible for him. They did such a good job at capturing the beauty of nature, at letting Ray teach us things, and and having him always sound relaxed, and even better off philosophically after studying nature and thinking about how lucky he is, and we are, to be able to enjoy it. I need to write to Ray and let him know just how enjoyable this program was.
I think some people misjudge Ray Mears, he isn't showing how to fight for survival like Lofty or Grylls, he's showing some bushcraft skills you can use to enjoy the great outdoors. Epitome of English greatness, you sir, rule.
Ray can take care of you no matter where you are ...he really knows his survival skill plus he's good for the environment...and he seems such a gentle guy.
