Who knew that visiting a banned horrifying place can lead to death?

Ah yes, the consequences of my actions.

They have to be able to see them. Because OP went to the hill, and they saw him on his return to block him from going to John's room.

If "Curiosity killed the cat" was a story.

John: tells a dark story about a cursed hill he once laughed at and a horrific fate he almost suffered were it not for luck

Narrator: “Nah, it’ll be fine”

Ooh, I love this kind of story. An unnamed malevolence that has become so steeped in mystery that it has taken on the role of bogeyman to the locals. As someone who was raised in Appalachia, where we have similar superstitions to the one in this story, this one felt especially interesting.

Remember, folks. If the locals tell you to stay away from something, you stay away. It's always better to err on the side of, "Okay, that sounds like nonsense, but what if it's actually true?" All legends have some nugget of truth.

Edit: People seem to misunderstand what I mean by "all legends have a nugget of truth". The "truth" is "something in this area is dangerous, stay the hell out", not "there's a monster here that's going to kill you".

The voice actors on these stories are REALLY something else. Fr brings these to life. Used to listen to these stories to sleep, but more often than not, i stay awake and listen to the whole thing. even on ones I feel aren’t my vibe, I still get sucked into the world. Love your content man.

Man. After all these years you always pick the stories that are the most gripping and have the best plots and characters. Thanks again today for your hard work Ronnie ❤

Thanks once again for performing one of my stories, my friend. You do such incredible work bringing each tale to life, and it's lovely seeing people enjoy them.

On a Hill was supposed to be a brief short story and ended up being a novella. It's part of a series of stories I'm working on called The Dungorth Mythos. There are three other novellas I havent released yet that are connected, but many of my short stories contain hints that there's something bigger at play.

Thanks for all you do, and to your wonderful subscribers :)

Funny how Occam's Razor is thrown out the window when it comes to this stuff. They literally twist logic into helices to explain every little thing away.

I feel bad for both John and the MC, especially John. Honestly the MC was so totally into John, which makes his death even more tragic

Man, I'm torn between not listening to "On a Hill" again for the nth time (it's my favorite classic story, I know it nearly by heart) and just sinking into your rendition of it because your narration, music and sound design are just SO amazing.

Okay, I've made up my mind, I'm sticking around.

As a Scottish lad I hate to pick any holes but when it's mid afternoon during a Scottish winter and you think you'll have daylight to do a 2 hour journey then back, nope, it's dark before 4pm at that time of the year. It's sooo depressing 😂😂😂

As a Scot, I have to admit that the Scottish accent is good! And a Scottish accent is hard to master to perfection.

Been listening for years and still always excited for every story, they never get old. You’re the best to do it

I bet the villager’s knew they could not do anything about the entity taking the guy away and were just holding their heads in shame/ fear. Love these type of stories

Reminds me of Lovecrafts story, the haunter of the dark. Somnium there is a wealth of content in lovecraft stories, and you would do them justice with your auditory and musical talents

@memnocktdevil 2 years ago (edited)

Maybe the thing waited for him to tell the story so it could draw someone else in. The moment the narrator stepped on the hill the entity went for the first guy.

This is a very modern version of something like Jerusalem’s lot by Stephen King. It’s a short story that itself took inspiration from the Cthulhu mythos. Very cool.

I think the hill was a fairy mound. This is due to how they mention stones when the hill is first settled, the wierd reality warping when people go up it, and the strange magic power "Father" has. I think Father is being pupetted.
