Anyone able to post just Berry's portion on the lecture. Excellent and thoughtful, as we've come to expect from him.

Gah! Why is the audio only one channel!? Listening on only one side of headphones is bearable only for a limited duration.

I'm not a christian.  Far from it.  But this is the ONLY person I've ever encountered that pretty much has the same position as me on gay marriage, entirely outside the two absurd extremes.  It's a third position that simply states that it is in everyone's best interest to claim sovereignty in personal life and not hand that personal power over to the government for what is essentially bullshit in the first place- seeking legitimacy in our behavior in the eyes of the government.  I am so disturbed that no one seems to question the two basic positions that we seem to be expected to shop among.  Liberals want equal rights, and that's understandable, that is the goal in my eyes, but going through law to secure the same "rights" more than anything else legitimizes the governments role in deciding who can and can't do what in their personal lives... or like he said, it reinforces the idea that rights are something the government hands out.  Well, that's fine and dandy if your people are in power, but what about when they aren't anymore?  Anyway, aside from all the christian nonsense, "what he said" and I rarely say that.  Always look in the middle.

Though married, I have no sacramental concept of marriage. Social contracts are needed to assure protection of children and shared property . . . both when appropriate . . .   so marriage has become a contract, as well as a sacrament for many. As for love and love-making, these experiences have always been impossible to regulate legally. Personally, I see that Eros, Philos and Agape differ according to individual, so it is not for me possible to speak of sexual fidelity as proof of "love".

Marriage is a church tradition. The govt nor any gay lobby nor any court judge has any right to force a church to alter it's traditions.

PS I'm not a religious person, I despise many an evangelical, yet I stand by my statement.

where is the text?

What an embarrassing litany of non sequitur and sophistry from Berry. I'd still be interested to hear his actual response to Scott Moore's thoughtful questioning or to the actual arguments of equally intelligent gay marriage opponents. He's a brilliant writer and a wise man, so this performance is particularly baffling.
