This was a very encouraging video! I'm in my last year of nursing school, and based on the openings I'm seeing in my area, me thinks I'll be starting on a medsurg unit lol. Or the ED. My problem is the ratios in my area are outrageous. I'm talking 7-8 patients and them nurses be RUNNING all shift lol.

I am a nurse from China. My English isn't very good, and passing the U.S. nursing licensure exam was a real struggle; the language barrier feels like a towering mountain standing in my way, and I have no idea when I’ll finally be able to step through the doors of a healthcare facility.

How long in training did it take you for you to feel like you caught on and you understood how to do the job?

I’m currently doing prerequisites to get into the RN program. And one of my assignments is to write an essay about the specialty We’re interested in and I’m writing it on MedSurg.

I guess my biggest fear is them expecting me to understand everything within a month and be annoyed that I haven’t caught on or fully understand my job duties😅 I’m in California btw. Anyone who may be curious in my hometown starting pay is $45 an hour of course with years and experience it goes up from there.

They gotta fix that ratio.😮‍💨

Also, question, Medsurg can be very task heavy and it feels like checking boxes sometimes. How do you develop your critical thinking and anticipate patients deteriorating when you don't have time to really dig into the patho of their conditions? I hope thats not a dumb question.
