This was the HARDEST one I’ve ever done, 9 times out of 10 you break the glass then the sight glass just prys out easily with minimal effort.

Thanks for posting this video. What I would suggest is orienting the glass so the holes at 12, 3, 6 and 9. In case of low oil condition there won’t be stuck oil between glass and metal piece that would make you think that is the oil level.

Sight glass was super stuck on my r1200st. Wound up getting a $60 bearing puller set from Harbor Freight and it came straight out after a bit of hammering. Definitely recommend getting the bearing pullers if the screwdriver method isn’t working!

Always put something between the screw driver or other tools and the engine block to protect and create more leverage

Can tell by the sound also when it is fully seated, bottomed in the hole.

I'm the process of replacing mine on a 2005 R1200RT.  The glass is foggy.  I've broken the glass out but getting any kind of leverage to wiggle it out with a stout screwdriver isn't cutting it.  This should have been easy but the pipe and lambda sensor are in the way.

I bought the oil sight from BMW guy. Fast delivery and the right part. Thank you! Anyways that was so difficult.. find the nimblest biggest pry bar you can find. Mine took some major elbow grease after mangling the old one. But with some grit it came off and was easy enough to install the new one.

Just drive a self taping screw into the middle and pull out with pliers

I’d put some tape over the glass before braking it. I need to do this on my R1100S as it’s weeping around the sight glass

Thanks for video, On a k75 I’ve removed the oil pan and tapped the sight glass out from behind, without damage, also gives opportunity to remove residual sludge from inside engine

I just should put the 4 wholes like a cross not like a X. Two months ago I’ve take my R 850 GS in a bmw dealer for the same repair. You have saved a few of money.😊

I felt bad for you the one you use to make the video was the toughest one ever. This could be a good thing because it shows others had tough it can be sometimes.

this is the first video about "self manutenction" on a motorbike that PUSH ME to do it ONLY in A QUALIFIED BMW SERVICE!!
Never do this alone!

Pad the pivot point

Do you have an oil pump replacement video for the oil head?

Ever changed just the grips on an RT (05)  with heated grips?  Any tips?  The rubber has deteriorated to the point that anything that touch the turns black.  The heated portion worked when parked last year (had back surgery and the bike has sat).  Need to change grips and fork seals due to one blown seal after hitting a pothole.

Very good doctor

Can this same technique work for kawasaki ninja 300?

I see a monster 1200 in the background.  I have a 1098 and I may have to replace its sight glass and the seal behind the clutch basket.  have you done those before, and if so, is it the same process?  In this instance, I will have the clutch case removed from the bike so I am assuming I just press a new glass into the case.
