interestingly enough, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is where the 49ers have suffered the most road defeats in the history of their organization. this goes back to their long standing rivalry against the Rams, when the Coliseum was the Rams' home stadium from the year 1946 to 1979.
Old Dallas fan but I watch almost every old game I run across. The highlight of this one for me was the pregame update on Billy Martin. While the man had serious problems he was very entertaining
The Raiders went on a great run after this game, winning 11 of the next 13 (one loss in OT) but then losing in the Divisional Round. This was the last great year for the Raiders in the 80s.
This must have been when CBS still did pre-kickoff editions of the NFL Today at 3:30 on singleheader Sundays--would explain the fairly filling crowd at the LAMC behind Irv
I was at this game. Flew down from SFO to LAX. Huge stadium. We had end zone seats. When the possessions were on the opposite side of the field, you could hardly tell what was going on. Niners kicked butt. It was Jim Plunkets last game. Was sacked by Jim Stucky. Plunket suffered a separated shoulder.
After the 49ers won Howie Long went after Bobb Mckittrick, the 49ers were notorious for low blocking, and Howie was not happy at all. These teams matchups are always memorable
They gave Stockton & Walker some big games this year. This along with Bears at Niners; this was back when they tried to keep Madden & Summeral on Giants games, Tim Ryan & Chicago local based Johnnie Morris on Bears games primarily, and this team doing Niners games (Wayne Walker did local SF media). I dont know WHY Madden & Summerall did the Giants when they were doing this type of practice? Summerall played for the Giants?
