as a visually impaired riftbound player, i really appreciate players who announce their moves and actions. thank you to all of you who do this.

That playmat distracted me for a solid 5 min

PLS PEOPLE OF RIFBOUND LISTEN TO THIS , NEVER HESITATE TO CALL JUDGE IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBT OR QUESTION  OR PROBLEME.
THERE ARE HERE TO HELP US PASS A GOOD AND FAIR MOMENT !

That playmat is diabolical

One of the most useful things I integrated into judge calls is actually something I learned at work: "Escalations are for both of us, not just for me."

In the Riftbound context I like to frame it to my opponent as "I'm also here to learn how this interaction plays out, let's learn together from the judge."

to the guy who told me that "it didnt matter" when i told him to orient his legend and champion at hartford i hope you realize us judges dont just say stuff to bother yall

My favorite interaction at a competitive event
Me: Hey man, what’s your name
Opponent: Oh I’m John
Me: Cool, Matt
Opponent: looks at their mat thanks man!

for the love of god. listen to this man and dont clump your runes

11:10 This is THE most important thing in the entire video. Communicate everything you do as clearly as you can and it will avoid so many judge calls and other issues. Clearly pass focus/priority. Announce what your costs are to make clear that you are paying them properly. Announce every trigger that happens and what action it's allowing. If your opponent is not communicating well, voice the communication for them by confirming all of their actions as they do them. Staying on top of communication like this will keep the full integrity of the game while minimizing the need for extraneous judge calls.

the ohnips playmat 👀

what the fweak
i was looking to get into riftbound cuz its getting released in my region this month
and i see my boy grenton woooooah

Now I understand why I keep losing: it''s because I am tired or hungry, mostly both. Great video, something I can link to people that want to attend high OPL

This should be a bigger video.  I just learned a year after playing riftbound, after never playing a tcg ever, this etiquette to be a 'pro player' basically.   I would have been DQ'd so much prior to this knowledge which is wild.

When I would HJ for DBS, I used to always say "Your opponent does not have your best interest in mind. During your game, if you have questions about an interaction or ruling, or there is anything you aren't quite sure about - please call a judge over, we are here to help ensure your have a fair game, by the rules of the game."

I found by announcing that as part of my opening remarks, more players were willing to call a judge over - compared to events where that hasn't said (either by myself, or by the HJ of the event).

All in all, always call a judge. If you disagree with a Floor Judge's ruling, or you simply don't understand the ruling, please know you have the right to an appeal. Judges at large events generally do not care if our rulings get appealed - in fact, a lot of us love to keep track of our appeals that get upheld vs overturned (and love the opportunity to learn when we get our rulings overturned).

Great Video !! We were talking about a lot of these at  the Vancouver Event. So happy to see it all in one vid to reference to players and other judges. keep up the good  work :D

Love the owl eyes at the bottom right :)

If I make the jank thumb I’m legally required to watch the vid! This has some great info as I find new tcg players to be a touch shy or have some trepidation trying to fit in. so having an informational video like this is very helpful and I can send it to new peoples!

I use to be a yugioh judge and i would say that same thing for calling judges. Constantly i was told by my friends "oh i don't want to get my opponent in trouble." To which i would always say i'm not here to get people in trouble i'm here to ensure that the spirit of the game is followed so that everyone can have fun.

thanks for this, i think this type of content is one of the best ways to reduce friction for new players like me when it comes to joining locals

Great video, I'll be going to my first rq in Barcelona and I will not hesitate to call a judge now. I was feeling bad thinking about it but as you said judges are here to help not to punish
