When I was a kid, we were always encouraged to read. Most people read normal shit like Harry Potter or something. I read game strategy guides and, of course, game manuals. I am a nerd.

2022 update: i actually did end up finding full archives of the persona 1 manuals for psx AND psp as well as persona 2: innocent sin's psp manual. check the sources in the description if you would like to see them as i felt they were not worth dedicating a whole other video for.

The original Japanese manual for Megami Ibunroku Persona is basically a miniature guide, I remember being pretty surprised when I opened it. It has some cool art, full spell lists, and a decent bit of info about fusion. Seems like the JP manuals up the ante on detail and art, the Nocturne one is also a bit bigger than the US release

In the original (non-PS Classic) Revelations Persona manual, there's illustrations and Guido Sardenia is called Guido 'The Rock' Sardenia. I'm not joking, used to own it.

God I miss being a kid and getting a game from toys r us or something, and being so excited that I'd read the manual on the car ride home.

I just wanna add that the reason Persona 4's manual has a soundtrack list is... that the initial PS2 release did include a mini soundtrack with it! it was a really cool bonus and I wish more games now did cool things like that!

As a 15 year old who used to religously read game manuals as pretty much my only form of consumed literature I take offense to that starting comment

I almost got called out in the intro. Im 15 yet have a collection of older game manuals without the actual games with it. Im a collector.

People complaining that games these days got too much tutorials when we lost the only way to know how to play the game, the manuals.

persona 2: eternal punishment’s psx manual is available when buying the ps classics version on vita, i have the game if you want screenshots but the game’s 10 bucks so go nuts i guess

I miss game manuals…I remember whenever I got a new game, I enjoyed reading game’s front and back wording and then the manual. Good times.

The narration in this video reminds me a lot of cybershell's videos, in a good way, it has that blend of info and humor with a casual tone that doesn't get annoying

Oh yeah, I've heard about that Christian story before. One of my favorite stories in the community

I have a physical copy of Revelations and the manual actually does include a very exhaustive list of battle status effects! The character section also includes art of each character alongside their descriptions. It seems like it was a lot more fleshed out than the PS1 Classic manual, which makes sense but it’s still disappointing.

Sadly my copy of Eternal Punishment didn’t have the manual, I’d love to be able to scan it and share with the community.

(tfw you were a kid that read both Harry Potter and manga/strategy guides/game manuals)
anyways, thanks for giving us a look at these. there was an old game I picked up last year that actually came with a manual, but I didn't even check it. if I were a kid, I probably would have read that ASAP...things change as ya get old, I guess.
