October 24th 1961 started like any other day for 31 year-old mother, Joan Risch. However around 2pm things took a sinister turn, and a series of odd events unfolded, concluding with Joan's friend walking into a kitchen painted in blood and Joan nowhere to be seen. Despite some sightings, Joan remains missing to this day.

Very bizarre. I thought the same thing as you did, even before you said it. I also thought of a miscarriage and that led to her losing her mind. I think she went off somewhere and bled to death. The fact she's never been found is puzzling and doesn't fit my theory very well. But if she were found by someone taken to their home, trying to help her, then she succumbs to her condition, then I can see a stranger panicking and hiding her body or destroying her body, preventing her discovery. Just a tangent thought. 😊

My mother was also born in 1930. She had many DIY abortions - she said she would have had 13 kids if not. Please don't judge her. My father was a violent brute and contraception was not good in her days. It was more common than folks realise.

This is a very strange case. Not sure how much LE searched the area but if she was bleeding it's odd that her body wasn't found. How awful for her children.

Awe dear. Poor Joan. I think she had a miscarriage whether self inflicted or not …she suffered a mental health episode. Wonder if anything was found in the garage. What a pity no one stopped to help her. I think an artery got nicked and she bled out and most likely eventually lay down near one of the last places she was seen. Thanks Michelle x

I’ve been fascinated by this mystery for years. A Kitchen Painted in Blood by Stephen H. Ahern is a really good examination of this case.

Hi Michelle I’ve heard this case before. It’s very odd! X

Also I hope they spoke to the dentist to ask how she was behaving or if she was looking as if she was in pain or discomfort
as he was probably the last person to talk with her !

Merry Christmas from Colorado!

Very sad what ever her reason for leaving i can't imagine her leaving her kids. Strange she would

bring her daughter and neighbors son and just leave them without saying anything .

I feel like you've maybe discussed this one before.... or maybe I have watched it somewhere in a documentary. It's a mind bender.

🙋‍♀️ On this one I tend to agree with your final theory; makes the most sense. A distant second idea is the gone girl situation, but it’s a very distant second. I don’t see her in any scenario leaving her children, so where the heck is her body? This one is another true mind-twister and mystery that I’ve a feeling is never going to be solved. 😢 Sad during those times woman didn’t have the support they needed so badly.
