Having a bell mounted near one of your thumbs goes a long way in the city

Those periodic bumps are probably expansion joints to deal with the shrinking and expanding of the bridge with varying temps. They're definitely annoying, and there are probably better designs for bikes but maybe gives some appreciation for it? lol. Thanks for sharing the ride!

I'm an older guy and I've been stunned how tiring pump tracks are. I think some are much better than others as well, some they get the flow right but others are definitely inhouse designs from the local council. Cheers Gary, another enjoyable episode.

Melbourne ftw. I envy places that prioritize bike commuting specially with the global oil crisis we’re facing right now.

Our company did the powder coating for this veloway way woahhhhh!

That bridge over Docklands Hwy has a rough surface and flat landings for wheelchair users

I'm surprised at the claustrophobia built into the veloway. Much of my enjoyment of riding involves seeing the surroundings and having the fresh air, not to mention that anyone unfamiliar with that area has no forewarning of how soon they need to exit to end up where they want to go. It's like the designers never rode a bike.

It’s a fabulous piece of design - congrats to all involved ! And thanks for the tips and tricks for beginner cyclists. I’m an old dude who’s never had a bike! Much appreciated.

Hi, I live in Victoria BC Canada, our city and beyond its limits has gone all out for bike lanes and it's quite safe.  The problem is tourists don't always know the drill and wander out on to the bike paths looking at their phones.  Just as you said tho just ride slower until clear of the inner city trails and then it's quite good.  Thanks for the ride along.

Here in Brisbane we have a lot of bike paths and it’s amazing how many pedestrians don’t look down as they walk to see the MASSIVE bicycle logo as they block the bike lane.

Cool that they put a pump track in, but Its gotta be brutal to ride a consecutive laps breathing that vehicle exhaust from the highway interchanges the whole time 🤢

I’m super proud of Melbs doing this. I don’t even ride anymore as I’m no longer in the inner city but I used to and always dreamed of veloways wherever there’s freeways and along the Yarra. I know it’s there now with shared paths but it’d be cool if all the dots were connected.

i totally agree that riding fixed gears in the city makes for the most cautious and observant riders. you gain a sixth sense. thanks for the tour big dawg

I love these ride videos, Melbourne looks super cool. Thanks for sharing.

Ok just to inform anyone who wants to try it, you access the pump track from the start of the Melbourne side of the Dixon veloway. Take the white concrete path exit visible at 9:35 and that takes you to the track.

Super chill ride and video. ✌🏻

Yeah, I'm totally envious at all the cool infrastructure you have there in Melbourne. We don't have anything even remotely approaching stuff like that around here even though Ray Delahanty of CityNerd said "If ever there was a city that should be designed so that people can walk, bike and take transit to meet their daily needs, San Diego should be it."

Upvoted for the HUGE AIR. 😂

This is great. Thanks for showing it.
One thing I picked up.
When you turned onto the Esplanade from Latrobe Street, you crossed over and went straight over to the pedestrian only  footpath.
There is a bicycle only path, next to the road.
You eventually connected back to it, after a little bit.

The new bike lane at 4:46 looks sick! Can’t believe how much new bike infrastructure you guys are getting! I’m so jealous from Brisbane
