My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about disability, neurodiversity and living with Tourette's Syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and dysautonomia. Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition causing involuntary movements called tics. I advocate for my conditions and life living as a neurodivergent & disabled person. This might seem weird, but as an autistic person I don’t really look at Zara a lot when she’s talking, so I always look at her room and the decorations, I think it’s so pretty lol

I have no experience of tics but I like to learn more about other people’s experiences in order to be more informed and able to support anyone I may come across. I loved reading your book for this reason as well! Also as an autistic person this video was weirdly comforting just listening to you essentially info dump /gen /pos 😅❤️

THANK YOU FOR THIS. i have tics and i sometimes have vocal tics but i don't say words and I'm really confused on whether i do have Tourette's i went to get a diagnoses a few years ago but they just dismissed it as anxiety. I've had a few vocal tics that kind of went away but recently they've come back but I've always had my humming tic. ive also had them since i was 12 but because i don't remember anything from the past two years so im not sure if i was ticking during that period i've always had motor tics tho. im 16 now.

I& have tics that come in and out. Sometimes they're stronger than other times, especially if we're exhausted and stressed. We'll also have particular tics disappear for months at a time then reappear, which always makes it bothersome when they come back.

Hey Zara, this is kinda freaky for me because I found your channel when I was researching tics after developing tics completely out of the blue two years ago. Now, two years on, I know whats going on (fellow FNDer over here hehe) and its crazy to see a video like this again, now in such a different state. No longer confused and worried. i've been researching tics and tourettes for months now. For almost a year i've had 3 different vocal tics (whistling, tonguhe clicking and coprolalia) and only ever 1 motor tic, which may over time have changed slighty (used to have alot of shoulder shrugging and now its mainly head jerking, occasionally finger clicking but not as common) so this video really helped clear my previous confusions on tourettes and tics. Finally got diagnosed with Provisional tic disorder like a week ago.

I had a really bad day today and weirdly enough it started with a random burst of energy. I was on my PC doing some work when I got a really big burst of energy it was so big I was talking to myself, clicking, having meltdowns (I was overwhelmed and having a bad autism day), stimming a lot, and I kept doing involuntary movements I think...... I tend to mask A LOT because of my autism and most of the time I don't notice, I have been none stop watching Zara especially videos where she has lots of tics because I'm learning about tourettes. My masking like most others is something I do to blend in with a crowd and to seem normal and I don't socialise at all so Zara is basically my only example of how to act so I act a lot like her and because I don't notice I'm masking I tend to do movements that are involuntary to her but idk if they are to me (I had a breakdown while writing this so it probably doesn't make sense) I have tried all day to find out if they are involuntary to me and I think they are but I don't know!! I really don't know what to do because I really don't want to see a neurologist because i don't know if I REALLY need one or not. If anyone has any tips on how I could possibly tell if it is just masking or not let me know please.

How cool! I've thought I had Tourette's in childhood, but grew out of it in my mid-teens. But I can't remember if I had any vocal tics, so based on your description, it seems I had persistent motor tic disorder instead. The tic-like behaviours (motor and vocal) that I have now as an adult, I think are caused by sensory issues and echolalia rather than neurological, since they're easier to suppress and not as daily.

I think I have 2 motor ticks, one of which is ususally accompanied by a vocalization. Idk why, i don't even know if it's not just me taking on people's broadly understood mannerisms again lol But they do usually appear in pretty consistent situations - when I'm either cold, or moving from somewhere cold to somewhere warm, or grossed out (typically by bugs, I hate them lol). I don't think it's a disorder, and I don't really care :P I am watching this bc the variety of mental and neurological disorders is amazing to me. Unfortunate, but amazing.
Edit: I actually think my ticks are the result of me supresssing typical shaking reaction (that I had mainly in response to cold), which used to be pretty 'violent' in itself because I don't tolerate cold well. I started suppressing it when I got a shoulder injury and it literally hurt to shake xd I still oftentimes shrug with one shoulder only because of it, even though it's now gone :P
