Should I keep flipping cheap “bangers” like this, or move on to something a bit more ambitious for the next project?

I did a lot of this in recent years and am just starting back into it now. I did 70 cars in 2023 averaging about 500€ per car profit, while working a full time job. It was madness and I actually ended up quitting due to the stress of it all. However, the single best thing you can do is clean it thoroughly, tyre shine, plastics dressed etc. if I got that fiesta with 9 months test I wouldn’t have tried to fix the advisories tbh. I take my photos in an empty car park locally, nothing to distract the viewer. Front quarter view, rear quarter view and so on, boot, rear seats, front seats and dash, mileage and cleaned engine bay. Well described, honest advert and they flew out the door. If you are doing it in volume, get a second phone and SIM card. Nothing shady but you just don’t want your personal number out there. Keep going with the cheap cars, they ALWAYS sell, people buying these cars need a car fast and if your one looks like the best bet then it’s easy.

With an always-on fan it will freeze the coolant in winter.  Then as that coolant hits cylinder 4 the bore will always be contacting around a warm piston. You'll wear cylinder 4 bore/rings as the weather turns cold.

That relay should've had a temp sensor wired in as well, that way the fan won't run 24/7.

It's a pity this car has since been scrapped. Must be on modern classic status by now? Nowadays it's becoming rare to find a small car that is simple, nice to drive, cheap to run and easy to improve. If anything, we need more cars like this!!!

I used to have one. I loved my 1997 1.25 'Chicane' 5-dr in State Blue. It was P802DTT also from Exeter, quite possibly sold new by the same garage that sold yours, back then called Evans Halshaw Marsh Barton.

This is the reality of working on cars. Especially little cheap hatches from way back. It’s the same on my second car (2008 polo) it is NEVER simple. Glad you shown it all

Looks like you're way above average ability and honesty...telling buyer all what's done and to do = satisfied customers. I have a Suzuki Alto 1.0 from 2011, for 2 years now, 60k and does 65mpg, low tax, ins....can' go back to modern rubbish...you'd nearly have to get passcode for minor repairs.

That fan fix was pretty bad i won't lie to you,inreally don't want to come as hateful but the amount of efford you put into that you should have tried to do a proper fix cuz you clearly have enough knowledge to do so, it was likely a temperature sensor or something of sorts that was bad or disconected , or maybe even fuses, digging around a bit could have showed the issue, having the fan always on adds unecessary strain on the fan itself, battery and adds noise , the engine will take longer to reach operating temperature too, hard wiring the relay also makes the proper fix harder for the next owner if he choses to try and fix it properly.
I do respect what you did the rest of the way, you added some value to the car with the things you did so the price hike feels justified, many flippers just buy and sell without even looking at the car, inflating prices for their profit, keep it up

Remove all stickers. That way the buyer isn’t phased by it’s previous owner. Bit like selling a house. Buyer needs to imagine them being in it, not thinking about family photos around the place, also stickers. They need to imagine themselves being a new owner. Hope that makes sense.

My first car was this gen fiesta 1999 V Reg  or as i like to call mine a "fiasco"  as something was always going wrong on it, the rear driver side wheel arch was rusting away, 7 months later the cat converter died and i had enough and decided to scrap it.

Not only that people were looking when i was driving it with the blown cat converter, i couldn't afford to repair it as i was working a part time weekend job at the time.

Glad you manag|d to save it from going t{ the scrapper like mine did.

I have the 5 door version of that, I got it in 2006 after my fiat punto died - my mum and dad literally went to to our local mechanic while I was in college and bought it "for me" and sent me a text "you've just bought a ford fiesta, it cost you €4000".  It was a grand car, but sadly I only had it for about a year, because I got rear ended while stopped in traffic and pushed onto the tow bar of the lorry in front of me, which buckled the chassis and broke the radiator.
