When I watch documentaries from the 80s , its heartbreaking because the vast majority of the people in the documentary have passed away , time flies so fast .
Bookies in 70s+ 80s were such a great atmospheric melting pot...All sections of society mixed...they were packed and there was lots of cheerihg and celebrating as well as moaning and groaning ..the dodgy tannoy commentaries kept you in suspense and were listened to by all...board markers with red marker for the winners black for places...settlers out the back actually working out winnings..closing at 5pm in Winter...civilised hours for staff no evenings and no Sundays.. and best of all...no machines...Glorious times that will never return sadly 💔
Nostalgic days of doing my accountancy exams in early 90's London . Doing test papers in Shepherd's Bush on Saturday morning then drinking and punting for rest of the day on the football and horses (and any other sport on ) with my mates in the pub around the corner . Getting the betting slips on at the local Corals and Tote
I worked as a settler for Ladbrokes in the mid 70's. First race of the day, if a punter won he thought it was his lucky day and would fritter away his winnings. If he lost he would spend the rest of the day trying to recoup his losses. That's the madness of gambling. I enjoyed my time doing it in the East End of London, met loads of real characters.
I had £10 each way on Spartan Missile at 33/1 and the wife had 50p each way on Aldaniti. She cheered her selection home and didn’t understand that it had cost us £330 🙄
1982 in title, but 1981 National: nearing the end of the good old analogue days, when things still made sense. The digital dawn on the near horizon that promised so much but, ultimately, ended up ruining almost everything. AI will be the final nail in the coffin for all the simple things we used to enjoy and take for granted.
Youngsters today are lucky in one respect at least: they have no idea what they missed out on.
No idea why I clicked this video but I really enjoyed it thanks. PS I know the person that bought Ladbrooks he's name is Teddy Sagi he also owns most of Camden Market
