🇳🇦 There is NO one who breaks down the golf swing and give a clear explanation like you Warren, absolutely changed my golf for the good and make golf so enjoyable 👍🇳🇦
Greetings from Vancouver Island (Nanoose Bay), B.C., Canada. Without a doubt, you are head and shoulders the best golf instructor on You Tube (IMO). I am SO impressed with the results of eliminating (mostly) fat shots from my game with practicing this video. Thank you for this and so many more of your excellent videos.
For so many of us, this might be the most imp thing. What I do on my back patio w a lob wedge, astroturf mat and a foam golf ball is to imagine my right elbow outrunning my right wrist to the ball. In actuality, at the point of contact, said elbow isnt gonna be ahead of the wrist...it's just a good way to shake the casting tendency.
You can actually do a version of this drill in which you start out with the club at the "key" position that Warren focuses on here. Then you can just pump a little bit and swing directly down to the ball - hitting the ball first. When I first saw some instructors demonstrate this kind of drill that is the way that they did it. I did not think that I could do it that way, but I could. This drill couples very strongly with the very basic "switch" in the position of the hands that occurs over a short distance on both sides of impact. That is what generates a great deal of speed at the bottom of the swing and combined with a solid ball-first strike generates much higher ball speeds. At the starting position that Warren highlights here the logo on the back of the glove (though he is not wearing one here) is facing towards the sideview camera - right in line with the ball. Very shortly after impact the hands have reversed by 180 degrees and the glove logo is facing in the opposite direction - it is facing directly back behind Warren, away from the sideview camera. I would recommend that people work on mastering that basic move first before trying to do it in this drill. It is a very basic part of every swing by all top level golfers. Only when they are completely holding off on their release will they not do it. I spent way too many years believing that move was not a good thing in the swing - that it was tantamount to a flip or something. It is not that at all when done correctly, as Warren demonstrates extremely well in almost all of his swings. He compresses the heck out of the ball and he tends to hit the ball relatively low, so he absolutely is not flipping at all. If you view his swings in slow motion you can very clearly see that the club head speeds up at the very bottom of his swing and it is the 180 degree "switch" in the hands that is making that happen. It needs to be timed, obviously, but it is really not all that difficult to do. There are all kinds of things in the swing that have to be timed, that is what makes it very challenging to learn. The timing is learned via practicing a lot, just as with anything else that involves physical movements.
Great explanation. But I can't keep from cringing that you might hit Trevor on the downswing. My dog likes to hang with me too but I have to put him inside when hitting balls other wise I can't concentrate
Warren I just wanted to say thank you to a 2 year old video I recently watched "Get a grip". I have watched you exclusively for instruction for a while now but my old Ben Hogan grip wasn't enabling me to release the club in the correct way for myself. People when you get it you won't feel any effort in the strike and the ball just goes. Trev was very distracting in this video.
Hello Warren! I recently came across the same tip from Jake Reddick, it's so good! I've gained so much confidence in my swing from it. I'm not sure if you're interested in collaborative content but it would be awesome to see you play a round together!
