How much are classic cars really worth when the bidding starts? 👀

Ahead of our September auction, Paul and Charlie each put a figure on two very different cars: a 1983 Triumph Acclaim HLS and a 1989 Volkswagen Corrado 16V.

We then follow both cars through the auction to see what the bidders decide, before Paul and Charlie look back at the final hammer prices and find out how close they actually got.

The Acclaim came into the sale with an estimate of £5,000–£6,000, while the Corrado was estimated at £7,500–£8,000, but as ever, the market has the final say.

Working at a main agent in the seventies and early eighties, the first Acclaim I sold at the launch night in the showroom was to an old customer of the business. The trade in was a 1964 Rover 110 that the guy had bought new at the same dealership. Imagine going from the P4 to the Acclaim!

The VW Corrado was a legend of a car for the youth that did NOT want to be seen in the chav equivalent from Ford or Vauxhall , your boy should buy it and enjoy the 1990s !!!

Got me thinking with times being tight on the wallet that even a lot of interest in a car is only really interest at or around the estimate, there's just not as many people willing to stretch their budget to match their interest in the present climate.

the Triumph HLS was not the top model the CD version was dad had one it came with electric windows and headlight wash great car but it rusted away sadly .

Triumph Acclaim was a great car , which because it ended up costing more to produce each unit than it sold for, they had to drop it. Typical of the British car industry at the time.
