The solar system is always drawn as a flat disc — but space has no top, no bottom, no preferred direction. Tonight, we turn ninety degrees and travel straight up from the sun's north pole, and straight down from its south, through a part of space every diagram leaves blank. From the sun's own polar winds, past the empty vertical skies above the planets, through the heliosphere and the frozen Oort Cloud, out past the edge of the galaxy itself, into the quiet intergalactic dark. A slow journey through the one direction we almost never think to look. Perfect for falling asleep to. No adverts.
