Lyrics

(It's all for the vibe)
Too much to say and there's not enough time
(Advance the judge above the law)
Too much to say and there's not enough time
(If it don't dance, the chase is on)
(So what's up? Here I come)
(Like, ready or not, ready or not)

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you
Don't ask me, just let me show you
There's a hole in the lot
Open up, are you ready or not?"
Waited days for a knock
Board the door up, changing the lock
Still, it went down, hе found my axe wound
And said, "I just wanna talk
I got what you want, you mind if I walk in?"

Chop, chop, cut a— cut away that part of me
Chop, chop, gotta, gotta finish the job
Advancе the judge above the law
If it don't dance, the chase is on
So what's up? Here I come
Like, ready or not, ready or not

I tied his arms back in a knot
Threw him in the boiling pot
Didn't know what to think
'Cause I caught a wink when I served up the coup de grâce
The tables turning, I can't kill this wicked vermin
'Cause his head rolled out of the room
Seeing red in the heat of pursuit as he blurted
"Come and find me, I can get you working
But you need a levee where I'm lurking
I'm tryna empty out my person
Catch a party underneath the surface"
(Whatever you want) "feed all your purpose"
(Wherever you want it) "to the maw of the serpent"
(Not in this timeline) Let's get this shit burning
(Ain't getting you nothing) Walk that walk, can you hit me with the

Chop, chop, cut a— cut away that part of me
Chop, chop, gotta, gotta finish the job
Advance the judge above the law
If it don't dance, the chase is on
So what's up? Here I come
Like, ready or not, ready or not

Why does it have to be this way?
Even dug him an underwater grave
I thought that I could suck it all away
Minutes later, it's climbing out the drain
This shit couldn't have went any other way, any other way
You gotta be kidding, it couldn't have went any other way
Yeah, yeah
Oh, oh

Advance the judge above the law
If it don't dance, the chase is on
So what's up? Here I come
Like, ready or not, ready or not

And I tried everything, but my
Wicked old beast won't die
No more spite, none of any kind
It ain't worth the time to

Advance the judge above the law
If it don't dance, the chase is on
So what's up? Here I come
Like, ready or not, ready or not

So I'll let him have this place inside my safe now that I've had enough
I don't need an antidote, the sickness started paying up
Tried my best to stay in line, my face is numb, my legs are shot
No smoking gun, it can't be done, I must have missed the caveat

(Sing)
Greening out in the sun
I should probably take the last hit and run
Call the kettle black, only here to blow off steam, ah
Preach no excuses while I make some
Stuffing black mold in the main lung
I can smell my fate, they unveiled the plate, ta-da!
No one noticed
I was licking my lips like a locust
I put on a disguise for my worry
Like one of these days it'll make me complete
In the end, it means nothing to me

Oh, I know you well

thank you to all the people that worked on this! this is beatiful

when the world needed him most, he returned

thats a snippet at the end, didnt realise that until I listened to the song on spotify, this album about to be crazy

My erectile dysfunction of 4 years has officially been cured 🙏

i wasn't expecting this new era of brakence to be so interesting, nevermind for it to expand on the themes of hypochondriac so creatively - i know we only have one music video to analyse at the moment but i'm gonna try my best to derive what i can in preparation for marrow (brakence's next album).

the main struggle i'm getting from this era is built around a struggle between multiple identities of the same artist - that which wants to create & entertain, that which desires destruction of that art & its subsequent safety, that which parades as being higher than the two, and that which is created anew amidst their deaths. for the struggle between art & destruction, i believe this is pretty obvious when looking at the two main figures which act as the "mascots" of this era, jesteR and butcheR. these two characters exist on a physical plane that brakence doesn't, and whether or not that plane is above or beneath his, they can influence him and his world. through the analysis of both of these figures being two sides of brakence himself, this plane would be brakence's body and mind.
in this music video, brakence has locked himself away from the world. i believe this is literally representative of his absence post-hypochondriac. if you've played his "knot-here" point-and-click game and asked the wishing well about hypochondriac, it responds, telling you "you don't want that anymore" or "that's not what you really want". this confirms that hypochondriac as an artistic project is canonical to his current vision for the next album, where it's creation and consequences have influenced the world of marrow and are not just one-offs like punk2 or bhavana. (to be honest, i was expecting his next project to be completely isolated from hypochondriac, so i'm glad that marrow still exists in its world, if the glitchy production didn't make that obvious enough)

now, i want to mention just how much this album seems to be expanding on specifically the themes of hypochondriac. ego was the central subject of hypochondriac, and while lyrics and aesthetics of the album simply put it under a microscope, this album serves to split the ego into several cohesive identities and subjects. in a way reminiscent of the ID, ego and superego, brakence's identity has become entirely split, fighting itself in a manic pursuit of control. when "brakence was eradicated" on hypochondriac, i think this is what was meant - that the cohesive identity of a man named brakence no longer existed, that his egos had branched off of each other, and that something anew now has to be created in his place.
in the mv, you can see this happening pretty directly. the creative half of brakence, jesteR, breaks through brakence's isolation and tries to draw him back out into the world, to make him dance, to create art. the body that is brakence staves it off in an attempt to stay safe and stay locked within the walls of his cabin, and the side of him that desires that safety, butcheR, awakens within his mind. as this internal fight happens, brakence breaks for the woods in a crazed attempt to escape from himself. butcheR is successful in immobilising jesteR, and jesteR's glove, the representation of control that exists within brakence's physical world, is taken by brakence himself. with jesteR out of the picture, the butcheR has taken reign within brakence's mind, and in a scene more symbolic than literal, brakence enters his own body through a door and manically kills the art that remained in his mind, the art that the world almost saw, the vulnerability in creation and the desire to be seen now quelled.

there's more to the story than just this struggle between artist and art, however. if you've played the point-and-click, you know that there are more characters at play than jesteR and butcheR, that being m, the Sun, and the effigy. the m seems to be a sort of mediator between the two, acting as a motherly figure. however, she still only exists within their plane. within the purview of Sigmund Freud's model of the mind, butcheR would be the ID (animalistic impulses that prioritise short-term comfort, safety and happiness) jesteR would be the superego (desires that pertain to social conformity, with art existing as a bridge between the social zeitgeist and the deep inner self) and m would be the ego (the brain's higher functions, which controls the body and serves it to move through reality and the social world through a mediation of the two unconscious egos).
as for what the Sun and effigy may represent, i believe that the Sun is the audience (within the context of the mind, this is reality itself, as it is the reason for the internal struggle at all) and the effigy is a new identity, a piece of art which the split identities of brakence have built in his image. i believe that the embryonic piece of art built from wire, thread and spool is an attempt from "brakence" to give the Sun something new so that it may make him whole once again, and that, once the Sun accepts it, the former identities of "brakence" can be laid to rest, born anew. i believe that the effigy is the album marrow itself.

(also i wanted to mention how much the visual identity of puppets, ego, art and control remind me of teeth off of hypochondriac)
