Casablanca is a classic romantic drama set during World War II, widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.

🎬 Overview
The story takes place in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, a key transit point for refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied Europe. At the center is Rick Blaine, played by Humphrey Bogart, an American expatriate who owns a nightclub called Rick’s Café Américain.

Rick is cynical and emotionally guarded—until his former lover, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), walks back into his life. She arrives with her husband, resistance leader Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), who needs Rick’s help to escape the Nazis.

This is one of those rare movies that seem to get better every time you watch it. So many details in the lighting and camera work, how tight the plot is, yet how smoothly it seems to unfold, how everything seems to slot in perfectly as it wraps up. You'll watch this years from now and have a whole new appreciation for this beautifully made little movie.

Many of the cast and crew were either refugees themselves from the Nazis or Occupied France, or Fascists in Italy, or had family/colleagues still in danger who they were trying to get out of Europe and to freedom. This makes the singing of the national anthem deeply personal and the emotions are apparent on the screen.

The actors singing and being emotional in the national anthem scene were in real life refugees from France. The tears you see in their faces and the emotional way they sang the French national anthem were real.

"We'll always have Paris"........ that line gets me every time

The screenwriters didn't finish the final scene until just before it was filmed. Bergman did not know who she would end up with, She had to play it for either outcome, which added to the drama and tension.

Don't misunderstand. The young refugee knew nothing about Rick's past. It just happened to parallel her own situation. Which, by the way, was that Captain Renault would give her and her husband exit visas if she sleeps with him. That's the secret she would keep from her husband.

One cannot truly appreciate CASABLANCA without knowing about the era in which it was released.

If they haven't already, every reaction channel should watch Casablanca.

Vichy Water is a reference to the “Vichy Regime” which appeased the Germans.

I’m not sure Cami understood the situation with Capt Renault and the young Bulgarian bride. Renault was willing to give her and her husband the exit visas if she slept with him. Rick intervened, allowing the husband to win enough at roulette to pay the bribe for the Visas.

Ingrid Bergman is absolutely stunning in this movie. Literally breathtaking. My favorite line is "You'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life."

The actor who played Ugarte, Peter Lorre, was the leading actor in M (1931), one of the most influential thrillers and a must watch for movie lovers.

I always thought the anthem scene is the greatest single scene in all cinema

S. Z. Sakall plays the maitre de. He was known as "Cuddles" and was a very famous character actor. We love him in "Christmas in Connecticut"

You need to do more classic movie reactions; you are quite adept and entertaining. When the movie is good, you rise to the occasion.

#1 moment in movie history??? the cut to Ingrid Bergman's face with teary eyes after Bogart calls out Sam for playing the infamous tune...

"*Ugarte:
- You despise me, don't you?
*Rick:
- If I gave you any thought I probably would"

Cami, when you started noticing the famous lines, I just smiled, because I knew many more were coming! Great fun to see you experience this for the first time. Thanks for the reaction and the premiere. 😊

They actually DID SAY her man died. Remember Bogart asked why there was no other man in her life in the flashback? She said there was but he's dead and then he said I forgot no questions.
