The real reason Dan started his own channel - no time restraints on sharing his love for Jaws!

A teacher in film shool once told me "you can learn filmmaking just by watching The Graduate and Jaws", i've never forgotten how true that sentence was

Y'know what I love about this movie? The fact that it FEELS like summer to me. As someone who spent time at the shore every summer as a kid, this whole setting reminds me of heading down to a summer town, hazy mornings where you can feel the heat as early as 8am, and how much time I spent in the water. To me, this movie does the best job at establishing the feel of the setting.

How Robert Shaw was not nominated for an Academy Award for his role as Quint is criminal.

I also love how kinter's parents are older, and its implied he's an only child - it just magnifies the tragedy.

I love the scene at the dinner table when Hooper brings the wine. Despite Hooper being a stranger that barges in, Brody lets him literally eat his dinner as if he is an old friend that just stopped by.

I would also add that the appeal of this movie is it's location, everything takes place in this little town at the ocean. It has the vibe of a summer vacation with you family at the beach. You have your loveable townfolks and a lot is shot narrow in relatively small rooms/sets, which gives the overall impression of intimacy and familiarity. The undergoing threat of the shark is the strongest aspect of the movie, because like in every disaster movie the build up is way more interesting and engaging than the actual disaster itself. On top you have the seafarer culture of the town. That accompanied by Quint's story creates an adventurous and to some degree even spooky and mystical atmosphere. And people love the sea shanty vibe.

To this day, Jaws is the greatest horror/monster adventure film ever made. And it's filmmaking brilliance will forever be a standard in building up tension in films like these.

I love Jaws so damn much.

The ferry scene with the mayor was the first time I ever noticed a long uninterrupted take as the scenery behind them keeps changing but they stay focused on the characters. Such an amazing movie all around.

My headcanon: Martin Brody is the grandson of Indiana Jones' pal Marcus Brody (and Indy's godson). As a kid, he confided his fear of water to Uncle Indy. Indy reassured him it didn't make him a sissy, citing his own fear of snakes, and told him that the real measure of courage isn't in not being afraid of anything but in doing what needs to be done even when you ARE surrounded by what you fear most and scared out of your wits. Thirty years later, Martin remembers his godfather's words...

Man against nature/supernatural, man against man, man against himself; my old literature teacher used to say all stories come down to at least one of these three plots.  Jaws has all three — man against nature  (Brody against the shark), man against man (Brody vs. the mayor, the town, competition with Hooper and Quint), and man against himself (Brody against his fear of the shark, fear of the water). The best stories have this three legged stool.  Why do we remember some stories for generations, and others are dated and forgotten?  The three plots are the Christmas tree the characters, the actors, the cinematography, etc decorate and make beautiful.

I love watching this every summer.
It's still one of the best movies ever.

I'm 52 and since 75 I've seen jaws over 500 times.  The best!

Yes! I’m not the only one that loves the “A what?” Guy

3:09 John Williams took this to heart for Jurassic Park (1993). The T. rex attack doesn't have music, because it doesn't need it.

I appreciate how much content you're putting out so quickly into your channel's debut.

Here lies the body of Mary Lee; died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her viginity; not a bad record for this vicinity.

Best movie ever made. Continuously rewatchable.

The one thing that always separated Brody from the rest for me was the fact that he always wore a dark t-shirt on the beach when everyone else was shirtless or in a bathing suit. Thanks for the vid Dan. It's great!
