Collection Therapy is in session. I go through the photos of my patron's collections and give them advice - telling them what games to cull, what to buy, and how to soothe their shelves.

This is the type of video the hobby is needing - not just making the biggest newest collection- but something to help people THINK about their purchases

09:27 “buy one of these crime games…then move on to the next one”: Jon you have all the Sherlocks on the shelf directly behind you… Get rid of them and you can make room for a French to Dutch dictionary!

@jadevandeluitgaarden 1 year ago

Thank you so much for your advice on my collection, Jon. My husband and I both agree that we don't need any Dutch & French dictionaries at all, so 4 books are off the shelves!

Props to the guy willfully making a Brit roast your shelf.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate all the graphics in this one. I totally get that it takes extra time to produce, but having the box art and additional info like player counts actually shown not just spoken makes it a much more engaging and enjoyable watch.

Ok, this is glorious board game content! My viewing of board game channels has dipped as I’ve reached the mature phase of my collection. I’m not chasing the new or seeking out optimal choices. But this is endlessly interesting content for me—where you can leverage your incredible board game knowledge, provide a fun service for your patrons, and appeal to board gamers of all levels of experience. No matter what, you should keep this as a regular series on your channel. I’ll keep clicking on them!

You're one of my favourite people on Youtube - heck, on the Internet. Your videos are so cozy and so funny at the same time. Love your sense of humor. Thanks for what you do!

Thanks for featuring my collection and the solid advice!

A tip for parents with small toddlers who want time for gaming: We started to play asynchronous when they were little. Just set up the board somewhere your toddler can't get to and take your turn when you have time. Not all games are ideal for this, but something like Scrabble is almost better this way.
Like my grandma who used to play chess over postcards with her friend in another country. They both had their board set up and wrote the moves to each other.

And be excited for the time you can bring them into the hobby. My son (3.5) loves playing Junior Labyrinth with me at the moment.

This is the best “review my collection” video I’ve ever seen— it’s so thorough and helpful!!

Hi, I'm Mel from England. Thank you for the lovely comments about my collection.

You are right the rubber bands are because I take the games out a lot and move them around so much.

I have cockroach poker and anomia but I have lent them to a friend.

I have just bought a copy of shifty eyed spies for £5 from vinted and survive the island is definitely on my Christmas list. :)

Really cool format, hope for many more episodes!

This is my third comment on this one video and I don't care. It's such a good video. You have always been one of the best boardgame reviewers out there, but this style of video completely sets you apart. Everyone else looks at one game and says what they think about the game, and the way they say what they think about the game is supposed to tell us what we might think about the game. But you obviously live in the hobby, and are an expert at the field of boardgames and the hobby of boardgames, and this is the best instruction about how to live in the hobby that I have ever seen. This is advice is advice to live by

@GeeScottJay 1 year ago

Therapy is the right metaphor for this. We all live this experience, and it's cathartic to just talk about it openly

This is one of the best videos you have created. I am currently culling my overly large game collection. My collection has way too many games that I bought thinking that my family would love to play with me. I have now realized what type of games they like which helps to get rid of games that are collecting dust. I also stopped buying games because I find a great deal somewhere. Your comments throughout this video help justify my decisions to modify my collection.

My problem is that the Slay the Spire board game is so good that my friends and I have played it every week for the last 6 months.

@bbdj2779 1 year ago

Super fascinating to see the various games clustered together into collections, and hear your analysis of them. You should continue to hold the Dr. Actualol therapy sessions every now and then.

The way he’s so familiar with almost all the games + recommends some that’s on the same vein, this is why you’re the best board game YouTubers.

I'm glad this is the first board games channel that I found. I've only been "into the hobby" for two weeks, but because this channel got to me before the other channels, I only got a couple of good games and my friends love them. Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Sea Salt and Paper and Codenames. All huge hits with my group. Thanks!
