One of the biggest elements of the Manchester City scandal is the role of Rui Pinto; the whistleblower whose leaks to Der Spiegel in 2018 prompted the investigation into the club in the first place.

In this segment from Wednesday's episode of The Athletic FC Podcast, Emma Paton talks to Jacob Whitehead and Jack Pitt-Brooke from The Athletic about how Pinto actually obtained City's emails in the first place and City's ongoing non-cooperation with the Premier League.

Mr Pinto deserves a medal for bringing Citys corruption out if he ever walked in my local i would jion the queue to thank him and buy him a pint

@Mannyman348 4 hours ago

Anyone believe it magically stopped in 2018 the day the emails were leaked? 😂

Pinto didnt immediately go to Der Speigel. The first thing he attempted to do was to extort money. Sporting lisbon, Portuguese football federation, sport investment firm DAYAN.

Thank you for clarifying everything ❤❤❤

The e mails show who the City conspirators are as well as what they did. Simon Cliff celerates the early death from illness of a UEFA lawyer in one of them.

If Rui Pinto’s hard drive from the computer he used to hack into Manchester City’s old computer system is still available, it means there is hard evidence that cannot have been manipulated from Rui Pinto’s point of view. You can’t alter the trace evidence on a hard drive without leaving a trace.

Wait I already saw this?!

Many hours of media MSM, independents, podcasts, pundits and fans opinions have been aired, but when all is said and done City cheated. Then they systematically not only resisted cooperation, but appeared to fight this throughout and are still denying they have done anything wrong. Removal for a period from the premiership and football league and removal of the owners permanently should be the minimum punishment, along with transfer bans and compensation. Anything less is tantamount to condoning their cheating and reprehensible actions.

He's a true Man City legend

If Man City are as innocent as they claim, why have they obstructed the investigation so aggressively? If you are innocent you would want all evidence reviewed comprehensively and Man City did not do that, they would not comply. That speaks volumes about the veracity of their claims of innocence!

City should be punished to the fullest extent of their crimes and their obstruction of justice. There should be no leniency or settlement.

I truly wish people remember how to remember crime. Teams, players and leagues were stolen from, with impunity.

Give Pinto Aguero's Premier league winners medal after the appeal is lost and is stripped. Only fair.

so if you kill some one and then say yep i did it you should get off with it what a load of bollocks

@jzilla1234 6 hours ago

Or you could just interview rui pinto, instead of rubbing each other off.

I really would love a post-mortem of the hack as a cybersecurity person. Granted, Rui Pinto seems to have done a pretty successful spear phishing attack, but I’d love to see a football fan who also is in the field talk about it from a tech perspective.

Chesea’s previous owners who actually did it did not self report

Everyone connected with uae fc are cheats including the fans and players they all have choices I knew as soon as ethiad deal was signed, they were cheating, so theres no excuse for anyone else not to know. These pundits who keep defending them are soft and ain't from the real world. They're trying to be nice to people that don't deserve it.
