Meatloaf is the perfect "safe" word. It means "I will do anything for love, but I won't do that."

@DRC16690 4 years ago

The song is literal--the lyrics tell you what he won't do:
1. forget the way you feel right now,
2. forgive myself if we don't go all the way, Tonight,
3. do it better then I do it with you,
4. stop dreaming of you every night of my life,
5. see that its time to move on,
6. sooner or later you'll be screwing around.

"Two out of three ain't bad" and "paradise by the dashboard lights" on the Bat out of Hell album are two of his best.

Meat Loaf has a unique voice, but for me the magic comes to life when he sings Jim Steinman songs like this. Bat Out Of Hell and Paradise By The Dashboard Light have to be on your future playlist.

Everybody upon first hearing this song asks what "that" is when he tells you in the song what "that" is. The first things he mentions that he won't do is lie to her ("I'll never lie to you and that's a fact") and forget the way she feels right now. You have to really listen to the lyrics and hear what he says he will not do, and that is what "that" is.

Rest In Peace Meatloaf will miss you

Brad: "Do they get together, do they go all the way?" - You've got to hear Paradise by the Dashboard Lights

Welcome to the genre that is Meatloaf. Rock opera on a level you just might not see anywhere else.

@anessalyn1035 4 years ago (edited)

Beauty and the beast meets Phantom of the Opera, the things he won't do he says right before each chorus, he says he'd never lie to her, he'd never leave her, he'll never forgive himself, I'll never stop dreaming of you, i'd never cheat on you.

I forget how much I loved this song. When she starts singing, it takes it to another level. More Meatloaf, please.

Sadly the legend that was Meatloaf passed away this morning from complications due to Covid. His voice was unique and his talent and stage presence was awesome. So glad to see he is still being appreciated by a new generation of music lovers the world over. Hope you keep up with the tributes Brad & Lex I'm sure you'll enjoy reacting to every track on Bat Out Of Hell, truly a sublime album. A very sad day to be sure. 😞

Ok, you HAVE to listen to the lyrics. The very first stanza (or whatever) says 'But I'll never forget the way you feel right now..." so this is the "that" that he won't do. He'll do anything for loe but he won't do that (forget how she feels right now)". And so it goes the rest of the song. He'll say all the things he'd do for love and then one thing he would not.

Meat is so unique and talented you should try Paradise By The Dashboard Lights and Two Out of Three Ain't Bad.

Rock opera!!! I watched an interview with him saying he originally went to get a job parking cars at an arena and ended up auditioning for a play that was looking for singers. He almost said no to the job because he would make more money parking cars 🤣🤣🤣

Rock opera. Meat Loaf is an entertainer, singer and actor. His songs all tell a story. The video versions are like a short movie. Check out Paradise by the Dashboard lights, Bat out of Hell, Dead ringer feat. Cher, really any of his work. Love your reactions!

@davidgore3261 4 years ago

The female singer is a session singer called Lorraine Crosby, credited as Mrs Loud on this track. But that is not her in the video, a model was used instead

My only issue with meatloaf is he didn't do enough music, what a talent

@davidwess3958 4 years ago

I enjoyed your comments about Meatloaf’s song. I grew up listening to his albums and have always enjoyed his theater types of albums he and his band has produced.
The sad part of all this is Michael Aday (Meatloaf) has just passed away two days ago. 1/20/2022. May he Rest In Peace
