I have exactly the same lathe as you. In Aus they called it a Colchester Student MK1 circa 1958 and mine has the same worn out apron and saddle. I’ve been putting this repair off for some time and you’ve just become my inspiration. Thank you!
Getting all those measurement correctly first shot is pretty impressive. I wired a 7 pin trailer connector correctly first time like 6 months ago and I’m still living off that high. Couldn’t imagine doing that like you did
I learned in high school on one just like this! But never did anything with it. I guess I used one like it in the late 80s when I was working in a factory but only one day! Then they put me back in welding the bastards! The boss was a mean prick!
Power feed shaft. So measure the shaft centres to find the original bush centres. Build up the wall with braze and rebore. The updated oil ports have sprung loaded balls which you should be able to source new. The oil specified would be Shell Tellus which is hydraulic oil.
Nice job, once again your persistence pays off. Those more modern oilers with the spring balls and the new felt should keep all your working smoothly for years to come. I am impressed how your measurements were spot on and in the end the gears meshed perfectly.
Maybe the previous lathe machinist didn't have a Bridgeport or vertical mill to drill out the carriage lever housing? You did it right with bushings and it will serve you well!
